With winter around the corner

With winter around the corner i was just wondering what kind of setups everyone is running for winter? I plan on getting some new rims and tires soon. But i want to know if i can just run winter on them or should i set up the stocks for winter. But before everyone says just use the stockers, i want to know what people are running in the winter on NON stock tires too. Thanks alot

You definitely don't want to run the stock Advan tires in the winter. They'll freeze and feel like you're driving on plastic tires. I am looking at getting some Goodyear all-seasons to put on my stock GSR rims, and at the beginning of next season I'm hoping to have a couple grand saved for some nicer rims - which I'll put some good grippy tires on.

I'm using Falken Ziex ZE-512s on my stock wheels for the winter. You should definitely not run the stock Advans in cold and/or snowy winters, that's just disaster waiting to happen.

I run dunlop winter sport 3D's. If you get a lot of snow they are great choice. Seems your getting another set of rims, it would be pointless to run all season tires on one set, and summer tires on another. Go with just a dedicated winter tire for your set of rims.

I've got 245/40R-18 Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero XL mounted on some aftermarket 18" wheels ready for October.

I went with some 235/40/18 Dunlop WinterSport 3D's on stock wheels this past winter, and they were incredible. They aren't cheap, but I think they are rated the best winter performance tires on tirerack.

There's a good deal on tire rack for Blizzak WS-60's. I got those and some GSR rims, so I'm excited for the snow to come

Seems a little excessive for a snow tire.

What rims are you riding on now? Can you go with a 235 or 245?

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 245/40/R18 on stock rims for the winter and summer and they are great all year round tires. In the winter portion it did very well against Chicago style snow which can get up to 2-3 feet deep during the season.

You want to cut through the snow, not glide/float over it. A 235/245 are more than enough for a winter tire. Not need for a 265/275 tire for winter.

I did the same thing... absolutely phenominal tire in the snow (and pretty damn good dry/wet traction as well)
