ROTA Wheel owners

Curious, I've been told the finish on these wheels are Painted and also Powdercoated (Which one??). Interested in the opinions of owners who have had these wheels for at least a few months (hopefully a year or so), in particular the HYPER BLACK and GLOSS BLACK finishes (I'm interested in the GRIDS). How has the the finish been holding up to scuffs (which I think the Gloss is more sensitive to) and/or scratches, chips, and overall durability due to regular daily driver handling/use (I realize track usage will hammer the wheels more due to repititive mount/dis-mounts)??

My friend had a set of Rota wheels and they chipped after 1 winter of Chicago weather. I believe they are painted. Or that Chicago has some corrosive *** salt.

I believe they are painted, but people have powdercoated them before.

hyper black... its painted and the finish looks great... however after a like 5 months of driving in a harsh environment... el paso "deserty region" one wheel had a minor scrape where the paint fell off.. overall still great for the price..

I am not longer going to buy Rotas . The last 2 sets i have had , brand new in box have both been trouble!

The first set i had would shake , like if they were off balance but had been balanced many times with new tires .
So i bought a second set , i got them mounted and properly balanced . Still shakes!! I got the car aligned and balanced again , thats when i was told that all 4 rims were bent , but how if they had about 10 miles on them ? just had been mounted on the day before?

So i received all 4 rims with very minimal bends , but more like a manufacture imperfect shape , they were not round but made "Out of round " .
I noticed this with Rota too. I never had these problems with my Gram Lights, Enkei's or my current Advans.
My Rota Slips on my Evo VIII looked painted, but they never chipped and I even did quarter mile and HPDE with them.

So your minor scrap was like a possible "curb"? Is the paint flaking off (where you scraped it)? That would be great if you can take a close up of the damage. So it sounds like HYPER BLACK in particular is painted.... I wonder if any of the colors are powder coated??

Thanks guys for your inputs

These are known facts for Rota rims, and I`m not surprised to hear.

Honestly Rota's are not bad rims for what you pay (IMHO). Ive had them on my EG & EK Honda's before I moved on to bigger and better things ! Wheeldude/Subydude has always been a great group, with outstanding customer service. Never had a single issue with having something replaced if it was truly a cosmetic defect or had some sort of imperfection.

Tracked my EK that was dammn near track prep (The car was built and i miss her everyday... ), and never really had any issues with them (other then weight). They do however over time chip (painted over PC).

Just my 2cents.
