I'm also looking for a comfortable daily driver tire that offers good performance. I decided to go for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric. I was initially going to get Bridgestone RE-11's but decided that it was too much tire for what I was using it for.

I should pick up the Goodyears in about two weeks.

The UTQG ating for those is 240, not a lot better than the extreme perf tires like the Dunlop Z1 and the price is very very close to it, $8 off. Hope you get a lot of miles out of them for that price. One reason I have a set of non Extreme Summer's isn't just A/S, its the 400 UTQG rating, something I can run and run and run on, not ever yet seeing noticable treadware. Like I said, good luck with the tradeoff on wear improvement at some expense of stickiness. Something may "give", or else these are little sleepers, future best sellers. While user ratings on these at the rack was indeed a little better than the Z1's, top vote getter so far, the reviews were for much milder cars than our Evos (2007 BMW 335xi Sedan, 2008 Cadillac STS V8, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, etc.)

There are a lot of guys on here who strongly advised me to not get an A/S tire, as I had considered them for quite some time and can get a VERY good price on most of them locally. However, I want something that I am used to when I go into a corner and that I know will make the quick turns I need it to make in case of an emergency. I think i've read that most can get about 20k out of the Vredestein tires which isn't to bad as far as i'm concerned. I don't drive my car hard very often as I don't have any tracks local to me and i'm not some asshat that risks the lives of other people and their families just to be able to drive fast.

If you are looking at that kind of tire the Continental ExtremeContact DW is probably a better buy as you will get better wear, little less money, and the reviews have been stellar.

Bump for anyone to give an opinion on my previous question.

They would pretty much only be used on the track. So it's either the 245/40 or the 265/35 on the stock wheels. What do you recomend?

I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out what to get. I want a decent riding tire, but one that isn't SUPER sticky.. so the V12's were suggested to me by Clipse, most of the reviews on them are good, I drive my car pretty easy and don't track it (though i'd like to, but no tracks real close to me) but several people have said the sidewall on these tires is just way to soft... would a 255 instead of the 245 help at all with that?
The Nitto's are cheap, but aren't great in the wet and supposedly don't last long, plus I have read they ride rough and the others are just more than I want/can spend.

*edit* to give you an idea of how I drive I have about 13,5 on the stockers, they are in pretty good shape... I rotated them recently and the fronts had a lot of inside wear so maybe the car needs to be lined up, but the 2 rears look like they have pretty decent, even treadwear... probably could use them at a track or something if anyone is interested in using them for a session or 2.

wow man, I wish I could give you an answer... I would imagine if the 265's would even fit, the more tire on the pavement, the more traction... but that may not be the case.. i'm definitely not any expert though, just going by what some guys I have chatted with on here have said.

Have you looked into the NT-555's? Or the Invo's?

Just ordered four of the Nitto NT-05 in 265/35/18 from my guy at Discount Tire here in Minnesota. They should be in this Friday. Four tires "out the door" (mounting, balancing, road hazard warranty, old tire disposal, and tax) for $1000 even. Based on my research I think that's a pretty good deal. I know I'll like the NT-05s because that's what I've been running for the past 18K miles or so on my Evo X in the summer, including several track days, a couple autocrosses, and lots of spirited country road driving.

Here are the other "out the door" prices he offered me for four tires:

$1251 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
$1300 Yokohama Advan Neova AD08
$1246 Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec
$1125 Kumho Ecsta XS

None of these tires were in stock here in Minneapolis. All would take about five days to get here.

I think my second choice would have been the RE-11s. I've heard all good feedback on them, but I just couldn't justify the extra $250 considering how much I know I will enjoy the NT-05s.

To answer the width question directly, having a larger size will cause MORE looseness in the sidewalls. Smaller will require more stretching, make it more tight, but may also be more sensitive to pot hole issues (and at the track, too narrow can cause beads to break loose, not good there.)
