Brake and Wheel problem. Anyone Else?

Ok so i just picked up my 08 Evo MR. Drove it home and loved every minute of it. I mean i knew the car was going to be nice, but i am really surprised by it. BUT before i picked up the guy had the thing detailed. Im not sure about the place that did it but here is what happened.

And then my good detailer came over today to "fix" the car and did a GREAT job. But he cleaned the rims and still didnt fix them. but then after he got done we looked at the brake calibers and the clear coat was coming off. The stuff he uses is perfectly ph balanced and he detailes vipers and lambos with the same stuff with no problems. So my thinking is the stuff that last detail shop used that messed up the rims, weakened the clear on the brakes.

But has anyone else had this problem? and does anyone think that i can get warranty to take care of this?

thanks

Aren't the Brembo brakes power coated? Clear coat can't stand that heat, pretty sure of that. You'll develop nicks from gravel in them anyway.

There's a few misc loose threads regarding proper cleaning. Don't use brake fluid, do use soap and water, mild degreaser (household strength), elbow grease. I LOVE cleaning them when I'm changing the pads so I can clean inside where the pads go so they don't ever get any crud in the areas that let them float free.

Yes, sorry, bad kb. I've seen procedures to do a good high temp paint re-do, but it's not a touch up thing that I've seen. Have you seen pictures of them brown or black yet? After a session, actually for a day, mine are brownish red, not "poo brown" -- yet. Wish me luck on racing pads, I might have my paint peeling too.

IMO, your pic's made them look pretty good actually. Cleaner than mine are in the back at the present. The pads dust a lot, quite a bit, so no one may notice. I didn't even when cleaned up.

Yes they are powdercoated and the detail shop stuff prolly did mess it up if I had to guess. I only use soap and water.

It looks like it's only missing the gloss. You can probably take it to some shop if you're not comfortable reglossing it yourself. It should'nt be too pricey probably a .5hr job.

You could try. Either they were defective upon delivery and it caused them to prematurely peel, or the detailer messed them up.

I haven't seen any other threads about this, so it's probably a pretty high chance it's the detailer's fault instead of Mitsubishi's.

All 4 of my calipers were peeling, the dealership took pictures of all 4 calipers and submitted them to Mitsubishi. They were faced with either $5800 worth of Calipers not including labor, or powder coating them. So they approved powder coating. My calipers are actually at http://www.tiradocustomcoatings.com/ for powder coating as Im typing this. Mitsubishi is aware of this problem. But each case is different. It's worth trying to get it covered under warranty for sure. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't even spend my time dealing with a dealer over something like this. They're gonna get chipped from gravel/sand/incompetent people taking wheels off.

thank you. This is what i was talking about. So did you figure out what caused it?

The calibers arent chipped. the paint is peeling off of them. It looks like they got eaten up by brake fluid or something

Well, sometimes dealers will help and sometimes they will just say it is wear and tear.

I cant really tell by the pics but if it looks obvious like a faulty paint app or something take it in. Most you'll lose is your time.
