id mount the winter tires on your stockers. since they are probably skinnier than your grids. I use dunlop wintersport 3D, they are very close to blizzaks. there is a tire that starts with a n, but cant remember, they are better than blizzaks, but hard to find since they are norweigan. While i was stationed in Germany, their car mag BILD did a comparison of the two and the norway tire was best. The 3D's are speed rated higher than blizzaks, they are very nice on dry roads in the winter too. kinda like a summer tire but for winter. snow traction is also great.

I'm fairly new to this, but it seems like your best way to deal with winter is buy an old F150
4X4. Buy the time you invest in wheels and tires it looks like you have around $1000 or so invested. If you pick-up a second vehicle for a couple grand you don't need to worry about swapping wheels every season.

I just got me some 18x9.5 +25 XXR 522s ($440 shipped) and a set of 245-40-18 Blizzak WS60 (Now $168 a tire at Tire Rack). I've read nothing but good things about Blizzaks and if something happens to one of the XXR wheels, I'll just buy another one (they won't take three months to get here like my Advans did

evo is a car for all conditions
Most fun to drive an evo in slippery conditions. If you dont drive the evo its own elements , then you have no clue how great car you really have , period.
In my opinion.

I bought my set of rota grids with wintersport 3D's and have now swapped them to my oem rims. It will cost you a pretty penny after importing them over. There's a guy selling his winter set up on our local BCevo site :P I would have bought that right away if it were 2009
thanks everyone
thanks man! havent checked bcevo in along time...

I ran general altimax artics on my evo8 for 2 seasons and I can say they are hands down the best snow/ice tire I have ever ever ever experienced, right next to the nokian hakka RSI's (which these are a copy of). Look at the tread compared to the Wintersport M3', pure ownage!

The tread is much deeper; they are absolutely insane in pure snow/ice conditions. That being said, they are a bit marshmellowy in dry conditions. To me this is worth the tradeoff, I live in MN and it seems like 7/10 days from Dec-March are worthy of such tires.
The only problem is that they don't make an 18" version of this tire, so the Wintersport M3 is the obvious next choice. I got a 'free' set on my beaterX (they came with the car on stock rims) so I'll be rocking them this winter; I'm sure they'll do just dandy! They do a lot better in the dry too, so worth owning.
Another good (cheaper) alternative is the Hankook W300's; you can get them at discount tire and they are about on-par with the Wintersport M3. I have a few friends with more experience with the W300's, I'll have them chime in.
IIRC the Dunlop Wintersport M3 was better in snow and the W300 was better in dry.
