coilover questions.
coilover questions.
Ok, I have done some searching and have found very little info regarding the questions I have.
First off, what are some good spring rates for the x gsr for street driving and an occasional autox? I had a civic with 12/10k rates for street/autox and felt it was a little stiff but it was not my dd. The evo is.
As for brands, I had Ksports on my civic and they were very nice. I had 0 issues with them. I would like to know what brands people have had good and bad experiences with. I know that most ppl will throw out the kw/ ohlins setups but I dont have 3-5k to drop on suspension for an autox every once and a while. I am wondering what cheaper brands of coilovers people have had. Ksport, D2, Megan, BC, etc...
Thank You in advance.

would likely be the best place to start, full of useful information. Also best or good spring rates is not easy to answer. There are more variables at play beyond the spring rate. Valving of the strut plays an important part of this as well. This is what makes it extremely difficult to judge what coilover setup reigns supreme. The reason why KW and some of the other brands are mentioned first and highly, is because they have had a good track record / feedback as well as extensive tests for this and other vehicles, with a consistency that stays rather the same. (good) Something that is not easy to do is repeat success across vehicle platforms.
The other factors in play is the driver. Everyone is uniquely different in what they want out of their car. There are some things that one driver wants, that another driver doesnt. It is very very difficult to make a product that is widely accepted by a wide range of drivers. Very few brands have done this.
You mentioned, "street driving and an occasional autox" there are many evo x owners that have coilovers that fit this profile. search the threads analyse the feedback.

well i will just say that i just put some d2 coilovers on my 2010 gsr and they are way stiff compared to stock atleast. My main intensions were to lower the car without getting bounced around however that is not the case. If i could i would get rid of them cuz i feel like the car takes a beating everytime i drive it. I would spend extra next time to get some quality coilovers. Ive heard some ppl changing the springs on the d2 so that may be my next step. Good luck and remember not to go the cheap way like i did...lol

You can get them for $1498 last I checked, which is a bit more than the brands you mentioned, but the internals are light years ahead for reliability and durability, etc.
