So I'm about to buy coilovers. And I'm having this dilemma between buying K-sports or Tein Basics. Every time I'm about to buy the Basics, I see a thread with a reference to K-sports. I just want a better suspension then my whack a$$ coilover sleeves...aka phony coilovers. I only use the car for street driving... sometimes aggressive street driving. I want a good reliable suspension unlike the crap I have now. I really need to buy something soon as I am moving down to SoCal in a couple months, and want to make the long drive comfortable. Although I'm leaning towards Tein Basics... sounds like what I need....something "basic" from a reliable brand.

Moved to own thread since Lazer's was just his questions.

Tein has been around a while, they have a good solid reputation.
K-Sport is pretty new to the Lancer scene. I don't think anyone has had them long enough to give a "lifetime" review.

I honestly think the Basics are a very good setup. I think you'll be happy with them.

But aren't the K's cheaper? I saw some on here got theirs for $700. What does the Basics cost?

Basics are $850 at RRM. If you hunt the net, you could probably find cheaper, but I'd stick to the trusted vendor (IMO).

yeh. ksports are usually $700 shipped (Amby and I ordered ours for this price from different vendors). Basics are labeled as $900 on RRM's website. With tein you are paying a lot for the name. I think Teins lesser coilover sets are overrated.

Thanks for all the suggestions, this forum has helped me with a LOT of my purchases. I think I will be sticking with the Tein Basics, as I am sort of a name brand *****.. and also going with the sway bar from RRM to complete my suspension since I already have the RRM front strut. I'll probably be doing the coilover install myself with my cousin, I'll try and post some pic's.

Agreed, but with the name comes a lot of experience. One thing I really like about TEIN is that suspension is all they do. So many companies out there are trying to flood the whole spectrum, and while many offer components that are pretty good across the board, something is to be said for the dedication to stick with one avenue of approach and master it. I'm personally going with the SS-P coilovers with pillow-ball mounts and EDFC, but I'm planning on doing much more aggressive driving than you mention.

Ksport has a pretty good reputation in the evo world and in other car circles. They're like Megan, you aren't paying to show off the company's logos, you're paying for a functional set of coilovers.

Don't get me wrong...I wasn't trying to knock on KSports. I personally just haven't heard much about them. One of the main reasons I'm going with TEIN is for the EDFC. But for someone who isn't looking to get as high end of a coilover setup (meaning they're looking more towards the basics instead of the SS-Ps), KSports will probably be great and save you a few bucks too.

Lancers can't use EDFC without cutting holes in the hood. So that doesn't help.

The TEINS have been solid performers. I cannot speak to the K-sports but we did have a hand in design of the TEINs and had the chance for feedback before they produced them. PRetty solid. Don't cheap out on your car now!

Sorry to hear that...I'm putting it on my Eclipse though. I've heard it's a pain in the *** to run the wiring, but I'm willing to put forth the effort.

I know what you mean. I'm about to get my hands on a set of Flex with EDFC for the Subaru. Not looking forward to running the wiring, but it should be pretty straightforward...

yeah. its not that cut and dry with a lancer. Tein doesnt even make coilovers with pillowball mounts for the lancer whereas Ksport does... Ksports offer more features then the expensive tein sets for the lancer.. Something that I noticed which basically made me decide to go with Ksports. Like most lancer owners, I figured Tein was the "best" choice still I started looking into it.
