Not too expensive, full set of 4 is roughly 540-550 bucks.
As compared to blizzaks anyways.

blizzaks are awesome so are michelin x-ice tires. Its the same technology so wherever you can find either tire cheapest would be your best bet. I've got a set of michelins on mine and theyre amazing.

My son has Bridgestone WS60 tires on his 2011 Evo X GSR. Simply otherworldy performance on snow and ice. Better than the Michelin X-ice tires he had on his G35. It is actually fun to go out in a snowstorm and hit the roads when everyone else is slithering and sliding around you. I am in awe of these tires.

honestly if you're not competing in some sort of "ice racing" or something snow performance of all snow tires is close enough not to matter. the biggest difference is their dry performance. tire rack splits their snow tires up into performance snow tires and regular snow tires. something out of the performance category would prolly be better for the evo... it really doesn't make a huge difference which snow tire you choose... if i needed real snow tires i'd just get the cheapest snow tires in the size i need

I got the Michelin Alpin Sport PA3 for their dry performance.

I had blizzaks (WS50) on my VR4 and have WS60 on the X. The WS70 only are available up to 225 series so no go. But I live in a snow belt where there is a need for a serious tread pattern. If you don't regularly drive in 3-12 inches of snow the LM60 is better for its dry performance. And for that matter if you don't regularly see snow fall then almost any performance snow tire will suite you just fine like one of the members already stated. By the way Ebay is your friend when it comes to good used tires..... just saying. Good luck!

I did quite a bit of research and based on reviews and others experience, the WS60 is a great tire in the snow but lacked on dry and wore out extremely fast, the LM-60 and winter sport 3D were a good all around tire that offered a good compromise of grip and longevity.

I looked for some general articmax because my wife has a set on her forester and they are great...and cheap, but i don think they are made in a size we can use. In the end i went with the Motegi MR116 from tire rack with TPMS and a set of Gislaved Nordfrost 5s from a local tire shop, mounted and balance with a set of lugs it was 1700ish.

Love the tires, the wheels are about 80lbs each but don’t look too bad on the WW.

yeah tire rack splits up their tires into winter tires and snow/ice tires. from what ive read, winter tires are better on dry pavement but still great in the snow. snow tires are even better in the snow but not as good on dry pavement and will wear out quicker on dry pavement. so you have to determine what your car will encounter more, dry pavement or snow.

i live in Chicago and went with the Blizzak LM-60's and theyre awesome. Glad I chose a winter tire too cause it has yet to snow any considerable amount. I know we'll probably have two or three crazy storms but for the majority of the time I know Ill be driving on dry pavement or plowed roads so thats why I went with winter tires.

+2 on General Altimax. I have a set on my beater 89 toyota camry and I'm about to get a set to put on my S4. They are cheaper than other winter tires but they are amazing. I only drive about 7k miles a year so I left them on full time since are awesome in the rain too. I tried looking to see if they offer it in a narrower size 235/40-18 but no luck.

If you are dead-set on needing snow tires, then that's fine.

Otherwise I would vote all seasons. I have Continental Extreme Contact DWS All-Seasons and they are awesome in the snow. Easily comparable to the snow tires I had on my last car. DWS stands for Dry, Wet, Snow... as they are actually rated and designed for snow, unlike most All Season tires.
