That's the plan so far. Trying to price a set of rotors and pads. This is my first X, so I'm doing some research. As far as I know, CT9A Evo brake pads fit on the front.

I've just never had brakes lock up on me like that.

Can't help with the source of the problem, but ...

... is correct. But note that that only applies to the front. In the rear an Evo X is not the same as an 8 or 9.

Yeah, that's what I was reading. I'm trying to find an affordable setup to replace the current rotors and brakes.

My shop thinks the guy installed something wrong. Until it comes apart, I won't know for sure what caused this.

Look into Girodisc pads and rotors. I have their pads and liked them. I will be getting their rotors when the time comes also. Inexpensive and never heard anything bad about them.

i believe adapters are made so you can use 8 or 9 rear pads.

when you say "locking up" are you meaning the breaks are literally locking up or are you just saying they are extremely grabby? there is a difference and aggressive pads to someone who has only driven on stock pads can give that sensation.

Locking up is the only term I could think of at the time of writing as I was pretty mad about it.

I've driven on several different compounds of pads so I do know what a race pad feels like. By locking up, I meant that the car wouldn't budge under power with my foot completely off the brake. At a stop light, in the middle of traffic, I was trying to move and the car was just sitting in place and I was not pressing the brake at all. Imagine having the parking brake up and trying to move...that's what it felt like, but the parking brake was not up.

Another update: I got the passenger front brake off. One of the caliper bolts was completely gone and the other was barely hand tight. The weight of the wrench could spin the remaining caliper bolt. That might be a great indication of why I could move the caliper freely with my hand.

The previous owner still swears that the car was fine and that it was up to the person who picked the car up for me to have checked the car out thoroughly. Apparently, when you buy a car, you are supposed to check out the caliper bolts to make sure that they are torqued correctly. He is basically blaming her (or me) for what has happened because there is no way he caused this.

No one else has been in that area of the car since it was bought. The pads themselves were not seated correctly and are worn at the very top differently than the rest of the pad. Tomorrow, I will take the rest of the calipers off and see what I'm looking at. I have the brakes slow bleeding tonight so I can start with fresh fluid.

Lastly, the funny part is he told me in a positive way how he replaced the previous pads with OEM pads. He put some pretty sweet Duralast pads in there!! I guess I should be pretty stoked about that! I'll update this thread with some pics. The biggest problem I have is this guy is trying to sell some of the parts to people on the forum that were on this car. If he didn't take the time to put the car back together right, what are the chances he took care of the parts that were on the car??

Another update:

I plan on moving this thread to a more populated area as to get it a bit more attention. It has turned into a problem with the seller and I feel I should warn others as he is trying to sell parts on this forum. He still claims to have taken care of the car and that all damage has occurred after the car left his hands.

Here is what the rear brake pads look like:

Here is one of the fronts. On the side that wasn't bolted in, this top line is very heavy. Sorry, my Droid pics don't show the indentation too well.

And here is one of the front rotors. Again, sorry for the Droid pics, but you can see where the rotor is cracking and in poor condition.

According to him this was all caused after the car was picked up (maybe 300 total miles). I have only put 10 miles on the car total. The last 2 cars that I've sold I replaced the brakes for the owner (or in one case I bought him new brakes entirely) because of how dangerous it is to have really worn brakes. Neither car had bad brakes that I sold, but I didn't want to chance it. If I was offered some kind of compensation then that's fine. But to completely absolve blame of himself and make it out to be my fault is not ok. I would imagine that he wouldn't hesitate to do it to another member on this forum. I will release his name when I start my new thread.

Maybe ask that this entire thread be moved. The only thing in here that belongs here is the observation that not having the calipers attached to the knuckle correctly might cause some rather odd and unpredicted symptoms.

I'm sorry for what has happened to you. My only suggestion on this is that you issue a warning to others (in the appropriate place) and then try to move on with life. I can't see you getting any satisfaction from the seller and, unless your state has a strong used-car lemon law, I can't see you winning anything in court, either.

Appreciate the response. I know I wouldn't win in court because it is a used car. The main thing that irks me the most is his audacity to blame me or the person who picked the car up for me for what's going on. If he had just come clean and said something like "Yeah, I'm a selfish tool box that doesn't care about the safety of you or anyone else and I didn't install anything correctly in this car and rode my brakes into the ground" then I would have no problem. It's not like I haven't purchased a car before that had unforeseen problems that needed to be fixed.

I don't plan on being stupid with this. Yeah, I'm a bit hot under the collar about it right now because it is happening right now and I don't like it when someone calls myself or those I trust a liar. I plan to make calm and rash decisions to hopefully prevent him from doing this to others. Nothing more.

Sounds right. Do what you need to both warn others and blow off some steam, and then move on with life. Trust karma and/or the Just World to take care of this for you down the road, as it were. You now own a very nice car that will have new brakes. Six months from now, this will be a faded memory for you while he will still be the miserable little schmuck that he is today.

Going to take Iowa's advice and let it go. I'll get a moderator to close this thread and let what's done be done. If anyone stumbles onto this page and wants more info they are welcome to PM me. Thanks again for the good advice.
