A lot of people consider Rota as knockoffs. However, they are not. They are cheaper yes however they will hold up decently for Auto X. Why drop 4k on wheels when you drive it around a lot? Risk curb rash and other harmful things. Save the money, get the rotas if youre on a budget, and let the haters hate.

I got my set of Torques which are 18x9.5 wrapped in Falken FK452's which are 265/35/18 plus lugs, mounting, and balancing all for $2000 shipped. I could go get the Volks but I'm not going to spend 4k on rims when it's my DD and the roads in North Dakota suck.

How exactly do you define knockoffs then? X, y, z brand comes out with a new wheels design, couple months later rota has the exact same wheel design (except without the engineering behind it to make sure the wheel holds up)... Sounds like knockoffs to me...

Knockoffs are wheels in which the customer purchases the volk center caps, puts volk stickers on them and tries to pass them off as volks. That's a knockoff of a Volk. There are tons of other companies that have wheels which look similar to other ones? Are they all knockoffs as well? Or were they wheels targeted to an group that is on a budjet or doesn't want to drop $4000 for wheels? At least I admit I have Rota's and don't try to pass them off as volks

This issue as been beaten over and over. Let me make it easy for you.

Can you pay for a set of Volks without feeling like you were just raped by a wild donkey?
If so, then by all means get them.

If not, then save up until you can and be happy. Else, get the Rotas.

Ce28's have a beautiful finish on them and like others have said, it'll suck if you curb them or fell in a pot hole.

Because Rotas are so damn cheap, you can treat your Rotas like that corner hoe you like to visit alot.. throw her around, look for potholes and run over rabbits.

I see it like this, Classy - Plain. I rock a set of Ce28's because i cant see myself riding around in replicas for wheels. I went big and don't regret it. Let the haters hate says a previous poster LOL...

Generally the biggest difference between a Rota and it's name brand equivalent is the name brand equivalent is forged and Rota's are cast.

There are benefits of having forged wheels no doubt, but I daily drive and like the idea of cracking many sets of cheap wheels over buying 1 very expensive set that insurance wont cover. But, authentic Volks, Works, etc are not apples vs apples comparison, when comparing to Rotas.

I cracked an OE wheel this week, can't make up my mind between Grids or Boost2's

Stupid south Phoenix crappy streets with sink-holes

Pretty much. Not everyone can/wants to drop 4k on wheels like I said. Why should they be looked down upon for not having money to buy them or making a decision based on where they live. Like I said, North Dakota is half dirt roads. Why would I want to spend 4k on wheels when I drive through gravel and rocks everyday? It doesnt make any sense.

It's not the fact that I dont want Volks because I know how beautiful they are and exactly how the shine looks. It's just not financially smart for me to do it.

just cause rota doesn't put the volk sticker on an otherwise identical wheel doesn't let rota save face from being a knock off wheel. similar wheels are one thing, but all rotas are exact copies of other existing popular wheels.

and for the record a set of volks for the evo is 3k, not 4. and there are plenty of other wheels available that aren't knockoff's and still at a reasonable price

If you were on Rota wheels would that damage be worse?

This might not be 100% accurate, but it seems to be roughly true. The difference between Rotas and the more expensive wheels that they resemble is that Rotas bend instead of break. It takes a larger impact to break an Enkei, Volk, or SSR than it takes to bend a Rota, but when you break a good wheel, it's done for; a bent Rota can actually be fixed.

If all you do is tootle around on the street or drag race, Rotas are fine because they are not getting hot and they are not being subjected to large side-forces on the spokes. If you autocross and don't left-foot brake, you'll probably be OK on Rotas, as well. If you road-race or otherwise get a lot of heat into the wheels and then turn hard, then you are asking for them to bend.

Again, that might not be 100% true and it might not apply to all Rotas equally, since the spokes differ a lot between them. For example, I've seen people autocrossing on Grids without a problem. (Grids are the beefy 5-spoke.) But you won't see me autocross on Circuit-8s or Torques. I just don't trust them enough. And, of course, Slipstreams are very popular among dragracers because of the brake-clearance of the 15s and 16s.

Thanks for the info. It does make sense though. CE28s are just damn sexy to me so thats why the DPT attracted me. Is it just me or does the DPT looks a little different?
