What material to use for wheel spacer inserts

Hi all,
I'm not certain that this is the best place to ask but I don't really know where else to go on this one so I'll give it a shot.

I have a set of Ichiba Wheel Spacers installed on my vehicle but I don't like the center insert on them, it seems small and flimsy and I don't need it to be cut down to the stock 67.1mm hub size as my aftermarket wheels have a much larger hub bore. I'm thinking about replacing the center insert and hub rings that I am using now with a custom cut insert.

I've got access to a lathe and a press so the only question I have left is what material to use. Should I be sticking with aluminum or do I want to make them out of stainless steel instead and what grade of aluminum or stainless should I be using for something like this?

EDIT: Follow-up question, should I make it removable or would it be better to press it into the spacer?

you wheel has a much larger hub bore because it's supposed to be 'universal'.. you then get hubcentric rings to insert into the wheel to fit the extended hub of your wheel spacer.

if you intend to never change wheels, and removeing the center insert, what are you going to rest the new hub rings on?

6061 AL should be fine. that's pretty much what most spacers and hub rings are made from. granted you have the correct tolerances for a seemless fit, should be fine. still dont know why you want to cut the center insert but hey. your own car.

Hope won't have to read about your (OP) car losing a wheel on the freeway! :}
