Complete Brake Failure?!
I'm totally in favor of more sarcasm, but we have to be careful not to cause the Great Unwashed too much grief in the process. There are some cars that have no hydraulics for brakes. But the 335xi isn't one of them.
at the end of the day, i can understand making that decision. but something tells me that both shops you took your vehicle to were crooked and shady. $1800 is ridiculous for brakes. if you keep taking your car to shady shops like these 2, you are going to have a lot of vehicle trouble in the future. im sure there is someone out there now with an evo that is happy as can be because you sold it to him only needing a $200 fix. and if you think things are going to get easier with a bmw, think again.
i remember a buddy of mine having a bmw, that needed a new alternator. the only difference between a honda alternator and the one for this bmw was a bracket that was welded on to the housing, price difference was $150 though. good luck on your endeavors in your bmw, but i cant say your run with that mitsubishi was the smartest.

Did I mention $1800 was for the brake line, brake hose, axle, and brake fluid. The CV boot was torn open by the ruptured brake line possibly causing damage to the axle.
One shop I went to was Mitsubishi so I don't see how they could possibly be shady.

hate to admit it but thats about right. but then again he didnt muck it up, another shop did (or am i assuming the wrong thing?). dont get me wrong, i am the type of person to do this sort of thing myself, but i couldnt imagine even with a cv axle replacement it costing of $600 with labor. And i use to be a service writer at a auto shop. maybe abs calibration? i really dont mess with abs, since the mirage never came with abs, and the shop i worked at didnt have those tools. im guessing they charged you with dealership (and bloated at that) rates to get you to trade it in...btw dealership shops can be the most shady. at least here in illinois they can be. because they know that if they make the pricetag large enough they can convince you to trade in.
just wait, my waterpump on my 335i went out...the pump itself was $565, plus the $150 thermostat needed plus labor. Luckily, I do my labor myself but a local dealer wanted $2000+ for a waterpump job!
