Evo X weird tires worn patterns
Evo X weird tires worn patterns
At around 3500 miles on the car, normal driving. I notice there was a pretty bad wear on the outside edge of the tires. At around 7600 mile when I did the oil and filter change today I found out that the outside wasn't the main issue. It's the inside... On all four tires, bald. No treads what so ever. So the inside is totally bald and the outside is getting there. Since I had the wheels powder coated, I want to blame that's the source of this uneven wears on the tires. All four tires have the same wear on them. During driving, if the road is uneven, my car would jerk abruptly one way or the other or back and forth. I hate that feeling. You guys got any thoughts on what the issue is here? Wheels and tire are stock GSR 2012 EVO and driving style, normally normal.

So it's a new car with 7500 miles on it and those tires? Have you had an alignment done recently? I can't tell from the pics but is this happening all round to all 4 tires? Inner wear I think would be too much negative camber.

I have 8500 miles on my 14 GSR, and have same issue with stock suspension. I currently installed blitstein + lowering spring and waiting for RCK to install + alignment. wish it wont happen after all with new AS tires for winter setup.

Agreed, it's the aggressive + toe that they have from factory. I looked at my tires very closely on my new 2014 Evo X and noticed the slight feathering of the tires on all the inner edges after a few thousand km's. I took it in for an alignment immediately and zeroed out all the toe. I'm at about 22,000km now and have not noticed any additional wear.
It's worth a shot though to see if Mitsu will warranty new tires considering the low km's. If anyone is buying a new Evo X, my first suggestion to them would be to zero out all the toe

Are the oem tires directional? I don't remember. if they are, just have them flipped on the rims (as in, dismounted, flipped around, and re-mounted.) You should be able to get a decent amount more life out of them after doing that. Worth the $100
if they aren't directional, just rotate them to the other side of the vehicle.

Agree, alignment. More than likely toe issues. A local shop aligned my car and I wore a brand new set of rears out in three months. Took it to another shop and the toe was way way off. You're essentially dragging the tires down the road when that's off.
