Brakes and rotors for 2011 EVO MR
Brakes and rotors for 2011 EVO MR
Hi all,
I am new to the evo community and just was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in 2022 for some new pads and rotors for a 2011 evo x mr.
I only DD the car so I wouldn't need anything special, I am just trying to save money for a wedding at the moment and can't afford the 7k mitsubishi quoted lol.
I have seen the powerstop z23 K4145 that should fit the car but wanted to know if there were any other options I could go with that maybe cheaper or more available in my area.
Currently located in alberta, Canada.
Thanks all in advance

Hello / Welcome @Jbarn1
Many of us run the following for street & light track work:

- Centric rotors (i.e. Tirerack or others) Centric makes the StopTech brand
- StopTech street or sport pads
I've bought twice from this guy. Not sure if he ships to Canada

My experience is that the Centric or StopTech cryo-treated rotors are the ones that stay on the car for many years. Especially the front rotors. I tend to warp non-cryo-treated rotors in one year or shorter after they are installed.
Girodisc rotors are perhaps the best rotors for our Evo X, but they are pricey.
Autozone's Duralast Gold brake pads are arguably the cheapest pads that perform satisfyingly for a street-driven Evo X. There are also Bosch, Brembo, and Centric street pads that are reasonably cheap, more available in Canada, and yet perform satisfyingly.
I personally use Hawk performance ceramic pads but they are more expensive.

I would like to make some corrections to my above post. Be very cautious if you are thinking about buying Centric/StopTech parts. Read the recent reviews and shop diligently. The pandemic and the West's decoupling from China have materially changed things.
Before the pandemic, Centric (and its high-performance wing StopTech) was little more than a company that imported pads and rotors from Chinese suppliers. At least they had some level of quality control, so we loved them. The pandemic has made Chinese automotive brake parts increasingly expensive. So Centric was mired in financial difficulties. In 2020, First Brands Group (aka Trico) acquired Centric. First Brands Group is the company infamous for making the Fram-branded filters with the glued cardboards inside.
We now live in the reality where imported manufacturing parts have become increasingly costly. Good quality brake components will be expensive and hard to find. What used to be great and cheap is no more.
What rotors would I buy if I were in the OP's shoes? Girodisc—definitely. It has withstood the test of time. DBA 52224BLKS—Pricey, but reputable. Hawk Talon—Would be a great modern choice if they keep the quality great. Brembo—Sure, although the OEM is overpriced and the aftermarket ones can be questionable. EBC stage 4 / stage 12—Affordable and acceptable. Centric/StopTech—Not a good choice anymore. By the way, worry not about the big coming storm though. After years of struggle, Fafnismal will be fulfilled and this legendary saga of our time will be sung by many generations to come.
