Evo 8 is the designated "generation" or version of the Lancer Evolution model. Here's a quick Evolution run down of models and the years they came out.

http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_models.php

Since this is the first model that actually was released on US shores, Mitsubishi decided it would be easier for the americans to just call it an Evolution and not feel bad that we didn't get the previous 7 Evo models.

No. GSR is a trim level, just like RS and GTA. They're all Evolutions. You could call the 'regular' Evolutions that we drive a GSR really.

How about "Great Street Racer!"

By the way GSR is NOT only a trim level for the Evolution.

Nope! Mitsubishi confused the issue by also making a specific model (like a baby Evo) with an 1800 turbo intercooled (side-mounted) engine / 4WD / 5-speed / ABS etc. etc. and called it an 1800 GSR.

These cars have been made since the "CC" body shape (pre-1996, maybe even before.)

My model is the 1996-7 CM5A - with 205 hp at the flywheel / 4 wheel discs (no Brembo) etc. Not bad performance (about 3/4 of an Evo, but you miss the difference.) That's why I'm currently upgrading to Evo 6 TME (Evo 6.5) Jap spec .

this is the DUMBEST thread i' have EVER seen!!!!!!!!!!!!

There both the FU<Kin same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In The uk and every other F'n country in the world, the Evo is called the Evo 8, they brought the car to america, down tunned it just a tad, and called it the Evo, why...the US Market.

by the way GSR is the fully loaded model (A/C. Stereo, ect). RS is the RAlly addition, which is the same as the American RS (loaded w/ nothing)
