i don't think its right for you to scare someone with a new car for no reason. most people who i know that beat on their cars during the break in actually have faster cars.

Now, for the real reason. It's called reading. I do alot of it with subscriptions to just about everything automotive, both foriegn and domestic. If you hadn't been so insulting, I could look for the article.
I have EVERY right to scare someone with a new car for a VERY important reason...I respect and care for all cars, especially the EVO. To know there is one just getting ripped by a noob upsets me.
As for the people you know, well, those are YOUR friends and they have no bearing on this conversation.
Have a nice day.
Check this out peeps. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
How many people are gonna believe this??? Hey, to each his own. Even if he is right, (which he's not IMO) Tell me how to ease the abuse on the rest of the car attached to that hard running motor. Worn clutch, fading breaks, abused tranny. And thats assuming he is right! If he is wrong, then you have a f-ed up motor aside from everything else.
To each his own, but I gonna stick to a safe regime recommended by the manufactures, you know, the people who built the thing. I think they might know a little more abouth their products than that guy.
Peace.
I read that on certain motors that it is better to beat on them when they are breaking in. (motorcycle motors is the biggest one ive heard of.) I also talked to an engine builder that recomended beating on his motors a little bit to break them in because he said he built them to such exact tolerences that it was actually better to do it because it helps the seals somehow( he biulds honda race motors and has a record of being the best in the honda community). honda actually recomends breaking in the s2000 motor in this way. He said s2000 and subaru motors are some of the best built motors and it is actually good to mash on them during break in. Im not taking sides just sharing what ive read and or heard.
I believe in a hard break in period minus the clutch drops and constant red lining. Just change your oil sooner and vary the speed. I firmly believe in breaking an engine in the way its going to be driven.
WTF? take it easy on the clutch, tranny and motor for the first 500 miles at least if not the first thousand, unless you like spending a lot of dough for no good reason at all.also, when your tires are brand new, they are a lot stickier than the clutch is grippy. instead of frying tires, you are frying your clutch!

i break engines in on the dyno with zero miles, and they all have excellent leak down and compression numbers. here's the compression off my 05' MR done today. not broken in like a baby needless to say.
