What does "sticky" mean?

I was just curious what sticky means, it seems to be next to the threads that haven't been posted on in a long time, does that have anything to do with it?

the moderators make important threads "sticky" so that they always appear at the top of the forum. that way you always know where to find them - and they are also the first threads newbies see so they will learn important information right away.
