You are right though, In some places shops wont tamper with the catalytic converters because it is against state inspection laws. I believe here in tx you just have to have one. The lancer starts with 2 so if you get the test pipe you still end up with one when you are all done.

Tampering with a cat is federal. It may cause you to fail state emissions though, yes. (removing both definitely will)

 

ok its on now what can i expect from it?

 

UPS came through just spent 2 hours putting it on...well 45 mins of it was tryin to get the car up high enough so i can work under it...it took only 10 mins to get all 4 bolts off and the rest was getting the O2 censor off...i had to lay under it and grip it the exaust with my legs and use about half a can of WD40...to get a good tugg on it without it moveing all over just loosen , dont remove(yet) the rear bolts attached to the exaust. and for those who said that their O2 censor wires ripped out when they did theirs...look up where the wires come out from and youll see 2 lil crimpers(made to keep the slack out)open them up and you have more slack to work with. yo gabe at RRM...thx for the quick work in finding my missing order and sending it out fast and for the help on the phone...now i see why people here say you guys rock

 

Hey trance, where are those 2 crimpers at? I've got my car on ramps right now cuz I can't get the stoopid o2 sensor off. I see where the wires meet the frame and theres that plastic bit there. I popped it off hoping to get some slack, but that didn't do anything.

I also tried taking the center console out as mentioned in another thread to get some slack, but no luck there either.

 

Well i went and talked to a garage, i live in new york, and he said as long as you have 1 converter everything is cool. He said especially because my car is brand new and for the first 2 years you dont even check emissions cuz its so new, but he said after 2 years they are suppose too but most small shops dont have an emission reader.....so aslong as ur cell aint on they will pass ya....so no problem.....I wanna order mine but all the funds are goin to my g/f for christmas....jesus

 

it's not the plug...look to the right(when your under and your head is under the tranny)they are just 2 lil metal strips(around a quarter inch about)they are sprayed with the same crap thats all under the body so if you just follow the wires from the plug to the censor you should find them

 

Well, I just took a look and unfortunately I already did that. Was kinda hoping that I missed something and I'd miraculously be able to get more slack.

 

sorry man(and i just pm'ed you about it)you can allways get a block of wood(or anything to help hold it up a bit...me i had to grip the rear exaust with both legs and push for about 20 mins and 1/2 can of wd40 to just get it past the first tugg...the rest just spunn right off...it's just that first turn...good luck and don't let it get to you...its just one lil censor(even though it did **** me off and my wrench flew across the street after i slipped and almost sliced my finger off...oh well...chicks dig scars...right)

 

Oh yeah. That bad boy is definitely coming off tomorrow. It's too aggravating to see everything detached except for one bolt.
