I need help buying my first car!

Yo,
I am about to turn 17 and I am looking to buy a car soon. I can spend up to 17,000 buying and modding a car. I am trying to find a supra or s4. I am leading towards a four door, though. Any sugestions on what my first car should be for the money I have. Please respond.
Thanks,
Mike

IMO, I would say you should get something that will be relatively slow and safe. Insurance will be a pain when you first start out, so making a wise decision and picking something that is insurance friendly will pay off in short time. If you do get in a fender bender, a cheaper car will mean you have more money in reserve to repair it, as well.

I'm not trying to insult you, I am simply saying that when you are first starting out, you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew. I've been there and had to pay the price. It sucks.

A Lancer would be an awesome entry-level car. You can get them for well under your max price, and then that leaves room for plenty of mods down the road.

a great choice would be the scion tc IMO. I bought the evo when I was 17 and it takes the average teen a lot of discipline and respect for the car to not go crazy with it. A supra wouldn't be practical but what do I know, I was about to make a down payment on a s2000 but the trunk space was way too small for college. I say just start slow and simple. I honestly regret buying the evo at such a young age because I can't stop modding and worrying about my car. All my money they I have worked went into the car so I wish I had bought a slower car (civic) so I wouldn't have the urge to. Hope this helps.

Get something that is easy to work on and there are lots of cheap parts for. You could find a nice old Mustang (like I did) or somthing for well under $10000, spend a couple of thousand to get it where you want it and learn a lot while working it. Get something that is not fuel injected or has a simple and reliable electronics system. You would be suprised how much car you can get for the money if you look at some of the 30+ year old classics. Insurance is cheap too.

Best wishes,

Get some insurance premium quotes first on the car you want to buy, it will affect or add to your finances at your present age, then buy the car. Goodluck!!

You don't really want a high performance car as your first. You will most likely crash it being that you have only driven for a year or so, and if you have a fast car the crashes will likely be horrific instead of minor. Of course you probably think this is bad advice, so buy something fast and find out for yourself.
