5th gear

I tried searching but came up with nil. Is there anyway to replace the fifth gear so the engine is turning 1.9/2k at 75 mph instead of 3.2/3.3 k? It would just seem easier to turn lower revolutions and maybe even get some more MPG.

5th gear on the Evo is already quite tall. It is possible to replace, but it would require tearing the tranny apart. The replacement gear would be about $600 plus labor to put it in.

Why are you asking?

I would like it taller like on my Dodge stealth TT. You could go form 0 to 100 by just shifting the first three gears.

Sounds like what you are looking for is actually a taller back end.

Are there aftermarket gear sets to change the ratios? How does it affect fuel economy and acceleration? It would slow it down, but make it more fuel effeicint, generally speaking?

I'm just used to a much lower revving car I guess. My sphincter tightens up everytime I rev upto 5k, it just doesn't seem right that a car should be sitting in that zone all the time.

I've searched the internet high and low for days, but I can't find any replacement gears for the differentials. Does anybody know of any manufacterers or aftermarket sites for them?

try the vendors. if it is out there they will have it. look here undeer vendor forums. find the one closest to you, and work your way away. posta thread in the vendor area and see if one of the evom memebrs who are vendor hit you up. thats the only place i would look. they have credibility on this site.
