hm well technically everything burns if it reaches its fire point. Hazmat classifies oxygen(liquid) as:
3 health hazard (gas i believe is 1)
0 Fire
0 Reactivity
OX

Hydrogen on the other hand has:
0 health
4 fire
0 reactivity

obviously you can see oxygen has a 0 fire hazard so it does not set of fire by itself!

Two fun happy reads about nitrous. Super cold, increases 02 charge, big kaboom. End of story.

Sorry, end of story or not, oxygen burns in gas form or else you COULDN'T light a match. That may not be the reason that NO2 works the way it does, but, I defy you to try injecting quantities of non-combustibles or non-flammable ANYTHING into a combustion chamber and get any kind of gain out of it.

ok well...to prove you wrong....they have an engine that uses Sodium pellets (Na) (non-compbustable by itself, metal in pure form) mix with water (obviously non-combustable or at least i hope you think so) and BOOM...explosion = decent power and very efficitent. only problem is the cost of pure sodium and the fact it reacts so violently with water.

oxygen = non-flammable gas...someone please find the damn green diamond sign they use on trucks and oxygen tanks to tell its non-flammable and post it.

pure oxygen is very flammable the oxygen we breathe is not pure it is mixed with other gasses including nitrogen.

You can look up cases where people have burned on the operating table because they were receiving too much oxygen.

Ok I guess Ill join in on the fray.

The NO2 bottle will not blow up because its in liquid form and in that form NO2 is extremely cold.

But when you spray it into the combustion chamber you spray it in at high pressure making it less dense and since the chamber is hot you are effectively changing it into gas form which is flammable. Then all the other fun stuff happens in your engine.

Check out this site that states that liquid oxygen is not flammable.

I think

Thank you.

zlancer, when you mix sodium and water, that causes a chemical reaction which results in totally different types of material. The chemical reaction produces energy.

Oh, and I think that the little green diamonds say inflammable, which is totally different.

no it says "non-flammable gas"

i e-mailed some expert chemists to see what they have to say about this.

Alright... all I'm saying is that in gas form, it'll burn. It won't explode unless compressed, but, it'll sure as hell burn.

I use O2 at the fire house all the time. It depends on what kind of form it is in. NO2

seperates when it is injectected into the car. The O2 cools it while the Nitro is the thin that combusts. If any of you guys are fire man you'd know that when you air tank leaks you'll see frost all along the valve stem. It dangererous to touch if you want to get frost bite.

someone said they didn't think the stuff was real cause it says its non-flammable, but if you look at a nos, nx, venom whatever nitrous oxide bottle you will notice it says non-flammable on it, also aren't there NO2 fire extinquishers, and i would hope those weren't flammable, lol

after seeing all of this i decided to research this and i found this site where it simply explains how nitrous oxide improves engine performance. it clearly states that when oxygen and nitrogen split there is more oxygen in the combustion chamber, and it also makes the air more dense allowing for more oxygen.
From what i know pure oxygen 0 is flammable, the oxygen in the air that we breathe is 02. This is what i have been taught. Correct me if i am wrong
