Whoever told you doesn't realize the 'G63 is terribly overbuilt and a very capable engine. Put it this way: the 'G63 is capable of 350 HP on stock internals. Read up on 'G63 powered Eclipses in the USA as well as monster Evos from all over the world and maybe you'll understand a little bit more clearly.

Right, because sub 10 sec DSMs use crappy engines and WRC doesn't believe in using anything quality.

Not to mention the large numbers of first gen DSMs still kicking the asses of newer cars on their original 10+ year old engines. Your friend is either an American musclehead or has read one too many crankwalk stories. Do some research. You'll find more than enough to cram down his throat if you so desire.

It's quite obvious your friend is either a muscle head like stated before or a hon-DUH fan....or just flat out has no clue. The 4g63 motor is probably one of the best built turbo engines out there for the average consumer to purchase. There have been cases people have ran as much as 23 PSI (that I know of, maybe more) on stock internals. I have an 8 year old eagle talon with 100,000 on the odo. and still run 18 psi on the stock engine (internals). That is up a moderate 7 psi from stock levels. Try doin that to a hon-DUH. I know i am comparing a turbo engine to a N/A engine...but you see my point. Dollor for dollar the 4g63 engine is hard to beat in terms of performance and reliability. I have had NO problems with my engine...let me repeat that..I have had NO problems with my engine. Just do the 60,000 mile work on it and it will last a looooooong time. The 4g63 has been around quite some time now....and it has no fancy valve timing that all these other manufacturers are using and this engine always proves to be as good or better. Like stated before there are old 1st gen DSM's smoking( on original stock parts) new cars all the time.....

Don't know the HP rating but I run consistant 12.5's in the 1/4 with my eclipse and it has stock internals... You be the judge...

Anyone have any good websites that tell you "what to look for in a 1st gen DSM?" Maybe a good website on 1st gen upgrade paths, rebuilds and 60,000M services?
