Evo or Vette...
I've been looking into a new vehicle for the past 2 years. I have a 01 Mustang V6 auto that is such a girl car it's ridiculous. I originally looked at new Evos when they first came out, and was all set on getting one but decided to wait. I wanted a vehicle I could drive year round, that was still fun and I could enjoy, unlike an SUV. Well I waited, and here I am, in the middle of winter in Rochester, NY, and I'm sick and tired of driving my moms Yukon cause my Stang has Nitto 555s on 17x10" chrome rims.
Now I recently looked at Evos on autotrader, and was surprised by the affordability. I got a new job now, even though I'm still in school so it's within my realm of affordability quite easily. I see alot for 22-24k, which is my ideal price range. Unfortunately they are all ATLEAST 200 miles away, with most 500+ or on the west coast. This is hard because I need to trade my stang in, and obviously the dealer needs to see it before he can offer me anything on it.
Now add to that my newest dillema:
I was just dinking around on AT, and I saw that there are quite a few 1999-2000 Vettes for 23-24k. Now I love the Evo, it's sharp, AWD, quick, fun. But a Vette is 345hp of pure RWD muscle, more my type of car, if it wasn't for NY weather. I've never driven a vette, but obviously it is the exact opposite of an Evo, aside from the fact that they are both performance vehicles. As it stands, I drive my moms 98' Yukon in the winter, so I always have a vehicle to drive. I could get a Vette and still drive my mom's as long as I wanted.
So:
Comments, suggestions? I'm really looking for commentary from someone who has owned both a C5 and an Evo, or someone who owns both. I'm so torn right now, all I think about is cruising around town in a C5 vert or targa and thinking how fun that would be...such a pimp ride. But then I think about those snowy blizzardy days when it would be so great to have an Evo with Blizzaks and be able to tear up the streets even with inches of snow on the ground and not worry about the morning commute and when I get out of work at 10:30 and it's snowing like hell. AH!

I had a Audi S4 and a Zo6 (2003, gave it to my dad) when I got the evo, this is one of the most fun to drive cars I have ever driven. I put snows on mine and drive it year round. I have a new G500 I have the wife drive now b/c of the Evo. Get the Evo
I got an evo and my dads got a c5, so I pretty much drove them both. Most people on here would tell you to get an evo, and same thing would happen if you were on a vette site. I really dont know which one I would pick, but obviously I picked the evo. Your comparing a 1-2 year old car(evo), to a 5-6 year old car(vette), for same price evo is newer. Your pretty much stuck to driving the vette only half the year. 4 door/5seater, versus 2 door, 2 seater ( have fun driving the yukon if you plan on bringing more than 1 person out on a weekend night). Both cars have nice performance, and you can throw a charger on a vette and make crazy power, few bolt on's on an evo and you can make nice power and still be very reliable. It all comes down to what you really want, I think you want the evo more, because if not you would of posted in the vette site instead( unless you already did..) I think if I had a vette, id probably be real **** about it for some reason, thats probably why I personally wouldnt get it, I dont like being **** torwards a car.
z06 or bust IMO
if it is between a normal vette and an evo get the evo. but if it is between a z06 and an evo get the z06.

i dont know how old you are but insurance is a killer for vettes

I was considering a vette also when i bought my car, among other choices as well. I bought the evo for several reasons, but mostly becasue I didnt want to spend 30k on a car I couldnt drive half the year or on the weekends with my friends. Basically, a vette is a summer fun car for us northerners.
Honestly, if if I lived in the south or out west, and didnt drive people around on the weekends, I might be driving a vette (or other RWD car) right now.
But for me in this climate, the evo is perfect. There is something to be said about owning a car you can have tons of fun in under any conditions.
But, when its all said and done, they are both awesome cars, and truth be told, you will love either one. Go drive a vette and an evo, and whichever one you are leaning towards, just get it and dont look back.

First of all Vettes are nice cars, no doubt, however if you are looking for an all year round daily driver that has the capability of a performance car, then Evo is the right choice. I have a modded 300ZX and I can't drive this little beast out even if there's only a little of dusting of snow. I had two accidents already (with the Z) driving during a bad weather. But with my Evo having 360whp/344wtq and being the car that it is, driving in the snow is a blast (with blizzaks), the car is so balanced and the handling is just phenomenal. On the tracts beating a ZO6 and '05 'stang is priceless. I got more, but I think you should not wait any longer, the Evos are getting to be very popular (I accompanied two friends to the dealer this month and last month to get theirs) and I think the current affordable price is not gonna last long.
I was in the same dilemma as you. Had a tricked out 95 SHO that had about 115k miles on it and I wanted a new car, I wanted something a little sportier than the SHO. Drove several Zo6 corvettes new and used, cobra mustang, sti, and a couple of GTO's. Was really hoping that a GTO was my car, those things are so dang cheap because pontiac cannot sell the things. Beautiful inside, excellent road car and you can buy any color you want for about $21k new. These listed for mid 30's.
The only cars I kept going back to were the evo and the Zo6. I decided on the evo instead of a used Zo6. Got my "clock reset" my the first Z06 I raced. DO NOT race cars that have license plates that read UD LOSE. No regrets about not getting the Zo6. The evo is a great car except no cruise and, if Mitsubishis can ever find a solution to the ECU Po300codes, I will purchase the extra hp the evo needs from Vishnu or Buschur.
You will love either of these 2 cars, tough choice.
Also am told that the ECU reflash will be availbel from Mitsu this Friday!!!

ZO6 with a supercharger or the EVO with a big turbo? I say drive them both, I have and they both have their pro's and con's. EVO less in insurance and you can carry 5 people and can drive hard in all types of weather. Z06 , fast and nasty topspeed when modified correctly with some boost. I chose the EVO and am very happy.
spend less then 2k on a evo and you will have 350whp or more and you can drive it in the snow. And fit 3 people in the back and actually have trunk space.
IMO test drive em both. you will go home with an evo.

Have you checked with your insurance agent to see how much coverage is on either car? I'm willing to bet that the Evo will be cheaper cause it's consider a 4 door family car compare to the Vette. I bought the Evo cause of insurance issues. If you're not married and under 25, good luck on insurance on the Vette not to say that insurance isn't going any better on the Evo but in my case, it was more logical to get the Evo. You don't want to be paying more per month on insurance than you do on your car payment. Just a thought but if you could afford a Vette, insurance wouldn't be an issue.
FLAEVO....you beat me to it

I have a completely clean driving record. I was quoted at $205 a month by Geico, and my parents said that they would take me back on their policy if it would save me money. I'm just so undecided. Bleh...
