Mine does it ever so slightly from 3rd to 4th if im shifting real quick at a high rpm
doesent happen all the time.. i suggest you engage the clutch a little longer before shifting into the gear that grinds..

1. how would he know if the original owner never abused the car, unless you're the original owner
2.Try changing Tranny fluid, may help problem
3.Just got car back from shop after getting power steering pump fixed...maybe they raped your car while the got it worked on.
4.Dealer normally warranties syncro problems if the car is not heavily modded, 0 mods would be great.

Just got all my supporting mods together for my build up. But now i'm finding a slight grind when redline shifting into 4th
. Tried everything...changed the tranny fluid, adjusted the pedal, and installed a ss clutch line which improved shifting greatly. Still grinds a llittle when i shift around 7k or higher. Now i'm trying to decide if i should delay my install & tune and do a Shep trans rebuild, or go ahead w/the turbo and enjoy it until the grinding gets really bad and rebuild it later. Any input? What all could I potentially damage in my trans if i continually drive the car like this?

Consider this, the exact same problem you guys are having... didn't start appearing until I passed the 170,000 mile marker in my DSM...
There's obviously a problem. And its not just the fluid. Or the way the car was driven at such low mileage. If it was a full on drag car maybe. But... also consider I shift 2000 rpm higher... than your redline... on a stock tranny... that has 8 of you guys' mileage. To me that signify's accelerated wear due to improper clearances and/or proper disengagement of the clutch. Which is a known problem throught Mitsubishi's history on the stock clutches. It might not just be the synchro's entirely. But an assortment of Mitsu's typical fu** ups.
Either way it sucks. And I find it hard to believe as hard as I drive my car its any one of these guys fault specifically.
Maybe a combination of dragging the foot, and a hardware issue. But I can't see it being solely on them if there is a TSB to support the fact.

Ok, I just called Mitsubishi in D.C. This is what they told me. Because the 4th to 5th gear grind dosent happen under normal driving conditions. They wont fix it just yet. If and when it gets worse they will fix it under warrenty. Right now it only happens when I wind the car out in 4th and then shift into 5th 80MPH give or take.
On my 03 which I bought new I started having that same problem at around 5k miles. It started out a 4th to 5th gear grinding issue and became a 3rd to 4th to 5th gear problem. It also had something to do with what RPM I was at when I made the gear change. Anyway I took it to the dealership and they drove it and were able to observe the problem. They pulled the tranny and noticed the syncros were worn out. Then the service tech told me that there was a recall or service notice sent out about a bad lot of syncros that were manufactured to the wrong specs and ended up in our trannys. Long story short the dealer rebuilt the tranny with new gears and syncros and had the car back to me in about a week (It took 3 days just to get all the parts). I am currently at 22k miles and have not had anymore issues with the tranny.
