5th gear grind

I'm having grind when shifting to 5th gear at about 50 mph from 4th. It only happens for 5th gear and just recently. Also, when the car is in any gear, i notice now i can shift it out of gear and into neutral without the clutch. Does this mean i need a rebuilt? or does it sound like i need a rebuilt? Thanks.

Yes. Sounds like the syncro on 5th is done. How many miles do you have on that trans and at what power level?

I would be inclined to say the same as above, however I would try adjusting the clutch pedal and see if that helps any, if not i'd say get it rebuilt

Regarding shifting it into neutral w/out clutch is not an issue w/the trans.

I do this quite often when decelerating & when you have matched your tranny speed w/your road speed the load is removed from the gears allowing one to disengage the drive

I think it is still original and its at 100150 miles. I bought the car at 88262 miles. Currently its at 265 awhp and 280tq. Don't know how it was previously mod wise because i got it from a dealer not the previous owner itself.

It doesn't grind when i double clutch to 5th only if i go to 5th directly, i will try adjusting it later.

It seems to be able to do it at any speed/ rpm tho, I've been trying it last night ever since i got the grind. I don't know too much about manual though, i just drive it normally, nothing fancy.

I've been driving with the 5th gear grind for over 5 years. As long as I don't force it into 5th and let it slide in it doesn't grind for me. You can either live with it or get it rebuilt.

Like Captain said, don't force it. Mine has been grinding ever since I got it and as long as I just ease it in, everything is fine and smooth.
