5th Gear Grind

For some reason my EVO grinds every time i shift into 5th gear at any RPM over 3,000. I haven't abused my car at all, never drag raced it and probably launched it one time. i spoke to Jeff Hill at Turbotrix and he thinks that it is a bad syncro which does make perfect sense. if it was the clutch, it would be doing it in every gear. I'm taking the car into the dealer on this coming tuesday with all the hope in the world that they won't put up the red flag because of the mods on my car.
which include:
Turbo back exaust
intake
MBC
S-AFC
BOV
smaller battery
upper intercooler pipe
boost gauge
turbo timer

i'm assuming that they can and probably will hold all of this against me but none of these mods really affect the tranny at all. especially if i have a bad 5th gear syncro. there really isn't any extra stress on the tranny when shifting into 5th gear even if the RPM's are high.

what do you guys think, am i fu_ked as far as my warrenty goes?

dang, thats a tough one. you KNOW damn well they will shoot your mods to high hell and tell you the voided warranty crap. thing is, 4th to 5th gear is hardly ever "beaten" on, even at race tracks.. 1/4 mile drag tracks... etc. so common sense tell a person that it IS defective, but then again dealerships most of the time dont have common sense.

hard one to call bro.

ditto voodooutt... The law states that your warranty is good unless they can prove your mods caused or contributed to the faliure. I would love to listen to the BS they come up with on you damaging the syncro on that gear... When the fifth syncro stated to rattle on my "00" eclipse gt, the tech told me it was due to my shifting from third to fifth and that "these transmissions do that." The service manager told me that he had to go by what his tech told him. They did finally fix it after a few months. Do not back down guy you are in the right here.

Occasionally I have the same problem. You should print out this post and show them that others are having the same problem without mods. I know it sounds stupid, but thats what i did with my paint chips on the driverside door and it got me a fix.

I don't have any mods on my Evo and I had the same problem. I figured out that the reason why 5th was grinding was because I didn't have the clutch in all the way.
