5th gear grind??

Ok so here is the problem under semi-heavy acceleration shifting into 5th from any gear causes a grind no matter how soft or fast the shift is. My car has 10,000 miles on it and i dont drive very hard at all. Took to dealer said they cant do anything because it is from driving to hard and "power shifting" I do not power shift. Any one have any ideas what do. im short on money and dont need my 5th syncro to go.

It's not because how hard you drive. You should be under warranty. I have a problem with the 5th gear syncro, but that only came up after my clutch was replaced. Take it to the dealer and have them replace it.

Mine does this at times also. I thought it might be normal because of how notchy and stiff the shifting can be.

Ahhh, 5th grinds when I'm on it ! After I changed my clutch, my 3th grinded, and 4th after did also after 6000 RPM. I had to drop the Trani. and get the synchros fixed. These well cost some cash.

Some have had some luck changing out their tranny fluid. Otherwise, you can try to get the dealer to cover it... but lets just say they have denied many.

I have the same issue. I try to rev match when shifting into 5th, and that does help 90% of the time. But it does still grind every so often. I havent changed the fluid yet and almost have 10k.

Hope your not modded. Mine just started the 5th grind 2 months ago with 23K on the odometer. If you have no mods or race/track history they can prove then it is warrenty. Try a different dealer if you have to. Be persistant! I'm modded and got denied. I sent it to Shep to get rebuilt. The dealer is cutting me a deal on loaner and labor because they don't agree with the Mits. district rep. Good luck though. Fluid changing did nothing for me either.

Go back or find another dealer. That should be covered under warranty.

The fifth gear grind option. It seems to be a option that came with a lot of Evos. Mine does it if I slam fifth gear. If I just let it fall into fifth it is fine. I bought mine used and found out the the TC had replaced under warrenty and the syncros had already been done due the 5th gear grind. Mine has not gotten any worse so I have just learned to live with it.

same here I get grind on 5th gear. But only when I shift fast. For normal drive, I dont get grind.
Also changing trans fluid helped smooth my clutch little.
