Should I buy a 2004 or 2005 EVO8?

I've done some research and the only differences I can find between the 2004 and 2005 EVO8 model are that the 2005 has no HID (unless it's SSL package), no intercooler sprayer and comes in the new Electric Blue colour. I'm not interested in RS or MR.

Not sure what the MSRP of the 2004 version was, but I'm sure the 2005 is slightly higher.

I have HIDs on my car (Protege5) right now, and i love them. That's why i'm leaning towards a 2004 EVO8 model that has HIDs. Does the intercooler spray make that much of a difference?

Help me choose!

Well, do you track your car? If not, the sprayer isn't really necessary. The '05 also came with an active center diff.

The '04 GSR does not have a Limited Slip Differential, the '04 RS does, but it is not transferrable.

All '05s have Front Limited Slip Differentials, and Active Center Diffs.

If you read a bit more, you'll find the front diff (most people say the 'transfer' case which is only half true) is a bit weak on the '03 and '04 GSRs, as is the clutch material.

Good Luck,

jcnel.

I like the 05's more cause of the 10.5 hotside and front helical lsd. The acd is a cool add on but I wouldn't have much use for it. Sucks it doesn't have HID's but you can always add those on, but if you don't you're saving a little weight off the front end.

it makes your turbo more efficient, thus flowing more air. The 03's on average push 200-210 awhp while the 05's are pushing 230's stock. On the mustang dyno i tuned on stock 03's push 170 while the 05's push 200.

can't you get hid's as a dealer option, and i'm not talking about ssL package?

Last edited by HiHeatEVO; Mar 31, 2005 at 09:11 PM. Reason: hid's

ahh.. ok ok... more power is better

even if you can get hid's as an option, it would be hella expensive from the dealer.
