You claimed that the STi was slowed by the gearing, but that shouldn't be the case. The shorter gears should have meant that he was in the power band much more often and much sooner after each shift. That's how it is with the MR...when I shift gears, I'm already above 4k rpm in the next gear, so there is no spool time...the turbo pretty much stays at full boost the whole way depending on how well I shift. Like you said, though, I will be shifting to 5th at the end, which is new for me. My DSMs never got out of 4th, so that could bother me a little near the end.

After I get what I consider a solid, reproducible stock time, I'm going to attach my S-AFC with settings I've already tested (everything else stock) and see exactly how much power can be released when overcoming the nasty richness above 5k rpm. The butt dyno says it's a BIG difference, but I won't know until I re-dyno in June...or if there are obvious differences in my ET/MPH tomorrow after I do the switch.
Technically speaking, you're right, but I was referring to the "human" factor, or human error. The lag time it takes for him to shift gears adds up to over a second of his foot being "off the accel". It's kinda sketchy, and since it is a human factor, I can't back it up with solid proof. It very much seems like it though during that run we did.

You could very well be correct. You saw the effect in person, and I'm spewing theory. The "Human" factor plays a big part at the drag strip, that's for sure.

Ha... yeah, unless you can go back in time a few years and buy it like I did. My house in Cascades has more than doubled in value in 3 years... it's insane!

Yeah, I'll be at DTC tomorrow morning. It's going to be a great day
