Yes, if Urabus doesn't step up to the plate when the Evo IX hits our shores, the gap in performance will become larger, as the Evo will now have almost the same (if not the same) power as the STi.

No, I didn't get a test drive. I didn't expect one and wouldn't buy one that had been test-driven. Even if you did get a test drive, you wouldn't be able to do anything with the engine/turbo, because it's not broken in. The only thing you'd learn about it is how the seats feel, how it hugs turns at low speeds, and how quick the steering ratio is. I did actually drive my MR before purchasing it, but it was only because I had a deposit, was 1st on the waitlist and was going to buy it as soon as it was ready. Otherwise, no test drive. I was quite happy to see only 4 miles on the car.

Yes, I realized that you were kidding after your second post. You might not be able to test drive it. I went by a dealership about a month or two ago (before I knew enough about the IX) to look at the VIII, maybe test drive. They didn't let me test drive the car, but then again, my right leg is still injured (not visibly, but I told them) so I understood their concern. Most of the time, if you show interest in the car, they will let you test drive the car. It's actually best that they don't let lots of people test drive the car, otherwise there would be lots of kids putting the hurt on the car during the break-in period. If you really need to test drive the car, go to meets and you could get to ride in a car with someone, which should give you a good idea of what it's like. DO NOT LET THE SALESMAN TAKE YOU FOR A TEST RIDE. I have seen some gruesome pictures of what that can lead to.

Exactly. If you can, get your car as soon as it gets off the truck, before the salesman have a go at it.

A lot of the times you have to flash money, credit cards, or a parent in front of them before you're even allowed to sit in the EVO. The guys I got mine from, which are jerks, I had bought a car there and remembered me and my credit score...so they were just like..."Hey how's it going? Looking at the EVO? Sure...you wanna go on a test drive?". LOL

Just if you get one...just becareful...so many kids are buying EVO's and totaling them by losing control and wrapping it around a tree or dumping it in a ditch. Honestly...from owning an EVO...you won't want to hear this but it's NOT the kind of car you want as your first car...especailly a first stick car. Matinance is HIGH on it...tires are EXPENSIVE...and you have to buy winter tires for that part of the year since the Advans that come with it are supposed to be summer only. We all can sympathise with you on wanting this car because you've dreamed of owning an STI or an EVO...hell I wanted one for 12 years before I got mine in '03. Just make sure you are buying the right car for you and your skills as a driver...because this car is wicked and it can honestly kill you if used improperly.

I think you're totally correct on this, however I think that if (like you said) new owners are careful and don't underestimate the car/overestimate their skills, collisions and injuries can be avoided. The Evo will be my first car--that I myself will actually own, that is. Obviously, there will always be kids who have these cars bought for them and end up wrapping them around trees, but I believe that if you respect the vehicle and take things slowly at first, disaster can be averted. I'm in the process right now of saving money toward the car and I think that buying the car with my own cash (not my parents') will make my respect for the car that much greater. I turn 18 in a few days, and I have had my heart set on the Evo for a few years now. Yes, the car is a beast, the tires are expensive, the insurance must be crazy, but it's my dream of dreams to have one to call my own, and I'm making that dream come true by my own means.
