is RED A BAD IDEA?

I'd ask why it mattered if they did.

Got my red evo in Jan of '04. It was all good until Jan '05 when I got a bunk *** tailgating ticket, then April 28th I get one for rolling through a stop sign. The first ticket is crap, but the 2nd one I really did roll through, and I attribute the bright red to getting me spotted. So the moral of the story is, behave and you'll be fine.
Some other thought about red... It's a royal ***** to keep clean, as bad as black easy. It also shows every little rock chip (and you will get a LOT with this paint). It has no clear coat, it's the one step process. However, when it's clean...sexxxy.

Only cheap 300 dollar paint job mixes clear and color. so mitsu red is basically 300 dollars paint job?
I've read about it for a year now. It's a huge debate. From my experience on how this paint reacts to the environment, it looks single stage to me. When I got it from the dealership it had all sorts of swirl marks in it. I've basically given up on the exterior, I know I'm going to have to repaint it eventually. Colorado puts sand down on the roads when it snows, and that leads to a lot of chips. My car already looks like it's 5 years old if you look at the hood and fenders. And yes, I'd say this paint is VERY cheap.
i have had a rally red for 2 months now, but mine has the smaller low profile lancer wing... i dont have any problems...
as for the paint, keep it clayed and sealed with nxt or some other synthetic polymer sealant like zaino and it will be fine...

Well seems like there is alot of contraversy but check out this thread:

Menifisto - That would sound logical......but how do you know this?
RSM4 - Do you have verifiable evidence backing your claim?
No flames guys, but I do know this......when I polish/wax the car.....lots of red appears on the cloth.

I use Zymol to wax mine. The first time I waxed some red came off of the hood, but the dealership had to buff out some scratches, so I'm pretty sure that's what it was from. All the other times I've waxed, no red on the cloth. Only other time was when I was debadging and I used some Goo Gone and was pressing pretty hard (which I've done on other cars with no ill results) and I had red come off. So from first hand experience, I would say that there's no clear on this car, or that it's the 1 step paint process at a minimum.
