Angry warped rotors

Hey Folks Has Anyone Had A Problem With Warped Rotors? I Have An 04' Evolution With Less Than 13k Miles On It And The Brakes Have Never Been Abused And At The Last Dealer Service, I Mentioned That I Had A Slight Shimmy In The Steering Whl If I Applied Brakes At 60mph Or Over? The Dlr Said Brakes Aren't Warranty And It Would Be 150.00 To Machine Them

Warping generally comes from substantial heating of the pads then leaving the car parked or stopping for a long period with the brakes depressed, without sufficient cooling prior. This will leave a deposit on the rotor surface which appears as a shadow in the shape of the pad face. Not long after, the deposits react with the rotor face and create a friction differential from the rest of the rotor face. When the pads hits that deposit area the wheel deccelerates faster then returns to normal, which causes the oscillation that travels up through the steering wheel.

Autozone will turn rotors for like $20-30, but I forget the exact price. Not sure if the dealer uses a fancier grinding technique either.

What you can also do is use emory cloth and turn the rotor yourself on the car. Do not use sandpaper. I did this on my current set of rotors and have no apparent problems. Easiest way is to jackstand the whole car, start it, put it in gear, and use the emory cloth on a sanding block to get a flat uniform grind. This is not as good as a professional blanchard grind, but it works well enough. It costs about $10 unless you already have the materials.

Take it to your favorite wheel/tire shop. You can get them resurfaced for way cheaper. Any auto place will do. I recommend the fav. wheel and tire shop. I got mine done for free.

Wear items are warrantied for the first 12months/12,000 miles. I had similar issues with my '03. They had to just machine the rotors just a hair. I was under 12K miles, but it was way over a year.

Every dealer is different, but I'd offer this advice. If you're planning on getting something warrantied (low cost), then get pay to have something else done at the dealership too. So it's more a convenient for them to check out your problem. I was getting a state and emission inspection and a recall done at the time of my request.

My wheel has stared to shimmy while braking at lower speeds. Feels like something is warped. guess I'll try the dealership.

That could also be caused by braking in the rain/water when your pads are hot and get shocked with cold water. Also, be aware of using an impact gun to put on your rims with. It will warp the rotors if you overtorque the wheels on. That is the worst thing you can do is use one of those to tighten up your lug nuts. Use a torque wrench and put them on in a star pattern.
edit: on the torque chart it shows to tighten to 80 ft/lb (for regular lancer).. no more, no less. I believe it is 100 ft/lb for the Evo.. you will have to double check that.

1550 miles on my 05 and breaks squeak like there's no tomorrow! I have an appointment with Mitsu on the 26th. Apparently the Mitsu Rep will be out to look at my breaks. the last time I took it in they cleaned the breaks and sent me on my way. I called them back and asked if he could help me, as he had no intention, claiming it was a rock and its not really a warrantee issue. I had to literally tell this guy that they had squeaked since I drove it home for the first time, and that the prior service advisor asked me to do this for a while as they would go away after break in period. what ever happens im still going to get a less than perfect(factory product, because the rotor will most likely be machined and that defiantly reduces the life of the rotor, specially with performance breaks.....
