selling my VW R32 for an evo.....
Hey guys, name is alex....
I have an 04 Golf R32, i'm sure you all know what it is... Anyway, I love the car, but it's just not powerful enough for my liking and I'm really not too happy with the AWD system, Haldex isn't all time awd, it just gives the rear power when the front tires slip.... So, instead of spending 6k on a turbo kit for it, i'm selling it, making some profit and buy an 04 evo for 24k, black..... Just a few questions about things I havsen't found out yet....
-What are the common problems you guys have had with the car...
-Where are the nearest tuners on long island, or somewhere close in the tri-state area that would have parts ....
-Are the software upgrades actual chips that need to be soldered in the ECU or are they flash loaded through the OBDII port?
-What kind of whp should I expect from software remap, 3" turboback, and a CAI?
Thanks in advance...
Alex
ps- here's some pics of the .:R32 for views...

well there's lots of down side on evo's
1. loud car(lots of tire noise,drive train noise,interior squeeks & rattles)
2. some cars have balky shifting when cold
3. weak clutch
4. hard to find good dealers (after sales service sucks, warranty is a pain in the a$$)
5. stiff ride
6. very high maintenance
7. money pit (can't stop modding da ***kin thing)
still missed lot of stuff. but pretty sure other guys will fill it
but good luck on your choice anyway if your mind is set on evo, i adapted to mine..

r32's are awesome, but i agree, i think that VW should have made them more powerful (not suggesting that my car is fast). but nonetheless, they are awesome cars. i rode in my friends evo, and the only thing i didnt like about it stock, is the lag. good luck with your evo purchase.
you should expect to be in the 260-280 whp range with what you mentioned. Add a boost controller for $90 bucks and you're nearing 300whp. Those mods should cost you less than $1200. Oh, as far as the ecu, it is a flash and no soldering involved.

thanks for the replies guys... and george, what are you doing here you secret trader? don't be asshamed, let them all know! haha...
anyway, i'm selling the r32 for 28k, here is for FS thread.... http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1904503
I know it's a downgrade in terms of ride quality and interior quality, and overall driveability and reliability... wow, when i say it like that, it definitely makes the R32 seem more practical, but it is just not fast enough for me, and i think the only car that could possibly substitute for the happiness my .:R provided, would be the EVO.... I'm used to lag, and the evo should seem quick spooling compared to me previous car; 2002 GTI, built 1.8t motor, t3t4 turbo, full boost and 4000rpm...
Would you guys do this switch, r32 for evo? Basically, if the r32 came with the audi quattro system (all time, all wheel drive, 25% of power to each wheel and a reliable drivetrain, i'd probably keep it, but i hate the Haldex system, how it works, AND i'm on my 2nd rear dif already... The evo just seems right for me...
Today i priced out what i will do to the car most likely by the end of july... Here goes, lemme know what you think... I'll have some cash to play with, the evo is 24k and the r32 is going for 28k, and i'm pulling in about 500 a week with my new job, which should keep me satisfied for the summer after i pay off insurrance and taxes...
-apexi avc-r2
-turbo-xs mbc (21-22 psi)
-3" turboback with cat-delete pipe and CEL fix 02 housing
-TurboTrix ecu remap
-HKS 264 intake and 264 exhaust cam gears
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump
-660cc injectors
So far i think that's it, until the clutch gives out
All thoughts are welcome...

EVO is your Best bet for WHP. I Got like 300 with INtake full exhaust and SAFC cost me under 1200 bucks. U might get more than that with a Flash from Dynoflash, turbotrix or whoever!

honestly, i think it's alot of money also, i only payed 22k for the car, i just got a killer deal when they weren't that desirable... Now? bone stock ones with 10k have been sold above MSRP (30k).... I'd say my price is fair, the car is just holding it's value because it's so rare, and so many people want to get their hands on one... I have some people interested already, so i'm happy...

But seriously good luck with the Evo, there a damn sweet ride. You'll have to take me for a spin when you get it.
