just got AEM Short Ram Intake

like the title says i just got my polished aem sri in today for my 2003 black evo and am planning to install it in the morning. it looks great has been proven to increase hp between 10-14hp. also comes with a heatshield to help ingest cool air rather than hot engine air. i also got in my turbo xs bov that should sound great w/the intake.anyways...if any has an experience with this intake or has any opinions on feel free to post em!!!

I had the same exact two mods...the intake is fine....but with the turbo xs RFL bov vent to atmosphere was giving me a poor idle
For instance when I just pop it in neutral and try and cruise down a hill or sumthin...the rpm's would drop lower than normal idle and the car would just die..
Or if I am switching gears and kind of hold the clutch in a lil too long...the rpms will drop again below normal killing the car....U should get a recirculating bov unless u really want to VTA because of the loud *** sound....

u should talk to DarkMethod...he is VTA with his HKS SSQV and he was having idling problems....he fixed it though by installing some type of device on the boost hose .....of course I had already bought a greddy type s BOV

I had the AEM intake on my 03 Evo and loved it. I was one of the people who had an intake and didn't have stalling or idle issues.

turbo xs H-34 or RFL?? If you got the H-34 recirculating bov, you will love it, I have it and it works great. RFL + no standalone ems = car running bad

I have this intake. A very worthy mod. No problems so far, but I am on the stock BOV. Either take a bunch of stuff out beforehand or be prepared to get a few cuts on your hands. It gets tight trying to get the intake in there. Good luck!

The AEM was one of my first mods...I love it...Especially you could here the turbo sucking in air more now. But dynoed proven it does not do anything in performance. For some reason these cars don't need intakes...BOV???...Well I have a Blitz but I'm in the market of getting a recirculating one cuz these cars are not made for atmospheric...

It was one of my 1st mods too, the filter was too big to fit right and my BOV was WEDGED against my radiator hose (it is still bent today) and You not only ben the HELL out of the filter but it runs against your hood. They gave you a smaller filter but it still rubs, the intake design is flawed as the intake tube is too steep, never really fit right I now run teh HKS unit.

^ same with me, ended up just running the adapter and filter for 2 days(hardpipe didnt want to go on) then sold the intake and went back to stock airbox.

Yup I was one of the people that got a bad intake, but now it is modified. It fits like a dream and I went to a smaller SPW filter.

i have this intake and i have no rubbing issues at all. when you install just make sure to put a rag or something over top of the fan shroud because it is very sharp. learned that the hard way. ditto on the maf bolts also.

Yes! Make sure when you are unbolting the mass air sensor from the air box that you try to help hold the other side still while loosening the nuts. The plastic tabs will not hold the bolt still by themselves like they are supposed to. They will break and then the bolt will just spin so that you cant get the nut off.
