Why are the 2005s so much quicker and faster than the 2003s/2004s?

Well I just got back from the Local dragstrip and hopefully I can help bring this thread out of he gutter.
Yes I am the one who ran their Bone stock 05 SSL Package (heavier) down the strip at 500 miles on the odometer after proper break-in. I was able to build what must have been about 6-8 psi of boost at the line using the 5k stutter and mostly not burn the clutch up for some low 13's. Best pass was 13.0 @ 105 and the car was stock down to the airfilter... no flash no boost increase. The only thing I did to counter the weight was to remove the spare tire which is always out of the car these days.
Tonight I had a rough time with the clutch and I knew it would be trouble. First attempt at only 18 PSI I lined up and got into the 5k stutter. I'm building about 8-10 PSI at the line and release the clutch when the car barely moves forward off the tree... the clutch is totally overwhelmed and the tires have too much traction to spin even at 35 psi pressure. I still ran a high 13 run but it was severely handicapped to say the least. Next attempt went very similar and I had to give up on leaving the line with any kind of boost at all.
Third and later runs I ended up just revving to 5k and leaving the line at 0 PSI for very unimpressive runs with 2.0-2.2 short times. Eventually I was able to get some 1.8x short times and turned out a 12.547 @ 111.63 run to end the night. I was considering continuing for another couple runs but decided that the clutch was going to be too frustrating to risk failure. After all this is my daily driver now so I did the responsible thing and stopped there. Considering this was on 93 octane street gas at 21 PSI and .94v across the board I think the trap speed holds up pretty well. Next trip I'll try some race gas and go for a little more boost and leaner O2's but breaking into the 11's is going to require a clutch that can hold the power reliably. Amazingly I have no problem launching like an animal on the street with just a slight rev but the track is just too sticky to consistantly do that every time. I'm thinking along the lines of an ACT 2600 as that has worked well in my Eclipse GSX with more power.

As for ACT, they don't have the 2600 anymore, but rather 2900. I, too, used nothing but 2600s on my DSMs, and I loved them, but they don't refer to them by numbers anymore. They just call it the ACT Heavy Duty, and it has a 2900# pressure plate. I went with the street disk, since my MR is also my daily driver, and it will be installed and ready by Friday, so I can let you know how it goes. I don't plan on dragging with it, though, because my 6spd is gear-limited to just under 111mph, otherwise I might have trapped over 111 and with a slightly lower ET. Knowing I can't overcome the gearing, I don't plan on shooting for 11s. It's all auto-x/circuit now...
I just installed my XEDE stage subzero tonight. This is on a bone stock 03 EVO.
I did notice more top end but I still dont think it is as fast as the three 05's I have driven.
That hotside must make a pretty noticable difference!

I cant believe I havent seen this thread til now. Warrtalon is right. These 05s are very capable. I know I havent even installed a boost controller yet and Im still running 12.2-12.3 on the strip. I think I might actually turn the boost up and go out again with stock cams to try and hit 11s. I think i can do it so I better prove it. I dont think its been done so Ill just have to do it. Exhaust, safc, drop in filter and boost controller 22psi should just about do it. Damn it warrtalon now I have to wait for my cams just to do this ****.
Ps. I might try and get a clutch installed by then so I can get a 1.6 60ft. My best on stock clutch is 1.71
