Why are the 2005s so much quicker and faster than the 2003s/2004s?

I am just absolutely amazed at how quick and fast the 2005s are. They are just running some amazing times at the strip. Some have such few mods and are knocking on the door of the 11s. I believe it is possible, for one to actually run 11s without cams and only running a flash, that is simply amazing. So why are the 2005s so much faster, why are they making more power easier than the 2003s/2004s? Is it just because of the 10.5 hotside? I mean with a 2005 it may be possible to run 11s for under $1,000 in performance mods! With the 2005s being so powerful and fast, I'm expecting the 2006 EVO IX to be even quicker and faster. IMO the 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is one of the most tunable cars ever, even 2003/2004 Cobras would have to reckonize the bang for buck these cars get in performance mods.

I said the very same thing not long ago see the post below.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=142397

At this point I have driven several 03/04s and 3 different 05's.
Hands down the 05's have more ***** than the previous years.

From what I have heard, its a combination of more factory boost, a better tune, and the hotside.

Dont forget they have ACD and FLSD as well. Not only do they handle better but the shift better too! I cannot wait for the 9 to come out. I will be trading my 8 in on the 9!

Its a bigger hotside for the turbo. Do a subject search for "hotside".

For power the 05s have:
1. Better designed turbo inlet nozzle
2. 10.5 hotside
3. Higher boost now 20-21 psi
4. Supposedly slightly more aggressive tuned ECU ....

The difference in power you are feeling is 13 ft.lb pound or torque and 6HP ....

Well, I don't have cams or a flash, and you can see my times below. I would have a chance at 11s with a test pipe and C16 if my 4th gear didn't stop at 111mph. Because of that, I have little-to-no-chance of hitting 11s with my current mods. Shifting to 5th just kills the mph, so I'm stuck. On the other hand, my counterpart whiteevoVIII has a GSR w/5spd, so he is quite capable of hitting 115+mph in 4th and getting 11s w/o cams or flash. He's already at 12.2@111 with an S-AFC, TBE, and stock clutch/ic piping (no mbc, cams, or flash), but it doesn't appear he's going to try to mess with 11s on his current mods, as he plans to just go right to 11.7s with cams and MBC added on. I believe he can do it, considering his driving record thus far. My car, on the other hand, will just have to be happy with 12.2@109-111 on my $900 in mods.

1. I think that's turbo OUTLET nozzle...the inlet is just a big 2.5" circle
2. Oyes
3. 20.3 peak that tapers to ~17
4. Haven't heard of this, but maybe...my AFR was below 10 in stock form

The 13tq and 5hp claimed by Mitsu is just what they said on paper. On the dyno, we typically show an additional 20whp along with a similar increase in torque. My car showed it with 248awhp, but didn't impress with 238awtq.
