Average Price for MR's

Its all preference but coming from a DSM I'm all about cost efficiency and performance over anything else.

I also come from the DSM world, which is why I have the mods I do, and why I know how to drive/launch the car quite well. In my $900 worth of mods, that's actually including the price of my pocketlogger to be fair, since my S-AFC is 5 years old and not worth much, as opposed to a new S-AFC II ($300). Of course, you could do a lot with the engine/turbo for 4k, but there's a lot more to the MR than just having horsepower. My "extra 4k" is financed over 5 years anyway, so it's not like I (or anyone else) could buy a GSR for 4k less then have cash to spend. You'd have to get a 35k loan for your 31k car, which doesn't make any sense...
The additional parts that you don't have are worth far more than 4k...they just don't show up at the drag strip. They DO show up in daily driving and all-around performance. I _love_ the 6th speed on what amounts to 90% of my driving (highway) for its noise, comfort, and gas savings...plus, the short gears allow for incredible acceleration as can be seen in my timeslips. A 7.80 1/8th mile with only a cat-back/mbc/s-afc is just crazy, especially at only 88mph. My 1g hit 7.69 at 92.5, a whole 4.5mph faster, and that was on a 1.6x 60'. Additionally, the Bilsteins make the ride soft and smooth, which is also great for daily driving, yet they perform even better in racing situations.
It's certainly fine for you and other to not care about this perks, and they may not be worth the extra cost to you, but you can't just CLAIM that they aren't worth it, because they certainly are. In this case, it's just preference (as you said), but that preference is not based on any measurable facts.
Dont know about the roof but it doesnt help. Everything you listed is accents... the tranny is nice for 6th to save a little on gas and thats it. The gear spacing is just about the same as the 5spd so there will be no difference in acceleration there. The MR is a GSR with perks and shocks. Nothing I would additionally finance over 5yrs which means your paying even more than the 4k.
The extra's are worth it to you and the pps that like to spend the extra money and say they have the best evo they make. I personally think its a waste of 4k(plus interest!).
If saving money is more important to you: Get the GSR
If having the best of the best is whats important: Get the MR

I've been researching Evo's for a couple of months, visiting forums learning about mods, mistakes, blown clutches...
I've driven modded STi's before and they're lots of fun. I've never been successful at a dealership when I ask to test drive an Evo, all I can do is sit in the MR in the showroom and imagine what it would be like on the road.
But when STi's are advertised at $30K, and MR's are over $35K, it will be a difficult decision especially when I read reviews that say the cars are very similar 0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, lateral G, etc....

Mod wise the evo takes to mods like a fat kid on a cupcake! The 4g63 is so easy to get more power and faster times out of, and Ive heard lots of complaints from subbi guys about not having the same easiness that we have. Do some more research. Read all the car comparison's you can find about the 2 cars. SCC had quite a few articles about the 2 cars and their pro's/con's and they put the Evo on top.
The 05 gsr does not come with alum. roof, only the RS and MR has that. i went from an 03 with sunroof to the 05 MR and have never regreted it. i also did not pay $4000 over the Gsr, i got mine for alittle above invoice.

side note: Where did you buy your MR from? The mitsu dealer on university in davie?
Here's what you should do (getting back on topic)
-->Put in your offer which should be a bit less then invoice....they might laugh at you..but walk out the door. Do this at about 1 week before the last day of the month especially July since the IXs will be comin out in september or somethin...but if you want the car now..make the offer NOW. Then..the last day of the month..they will most likely call you in the morning giving it to you at the price you want and tell you to pick it up by the end of the day. The more cars they sell by the end of the month in terms of value...the more they will get from Mitsubishi head quarters for commission. In this case, a 35k MR is a lot to them...they just put the mark up price sooooo stupid loaded folks can comin and buy the car for that price. Since there is no stupid rich folks around (the car has been sitting since november)...make your offer and wait for the call back on the last day of the month...if they dont call at the end of the month..just give them a call back in the beginning of july and give them a slightly greater offer..thats the only advice i can give. I walked into the Dealership when I was 15 years old and made the offer for my dad. I said $14,500 for an OZ Rally with the Sunroof and Spoiler. The sticker price was $18292. The guy laughed at me and I walked out giving em my phone number. A week later we picked it up for the exact price I offered. We did the same thing back in 2002 for my moms lancer ES. Its the way it goes man. Always sound confident as well....if they reply with..youre never gonna get an evo mr for cheaper....just tell him you can buy one from another dealer (mention one that has one). Theyll get spooked and eventually give in. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. Im sure that once September gets closer around, they will want to dump it for cheap. H*ll, they have two other Evo 8's there on the lot as well, collecting dirt.

The 6spd gearing is MUCH different. Again, you haven't been following my drag racing threads that show without a doubt that the gearing is significantly different. 4th gear MAXES out just below 111mph on the stock tires in a 6spd, but the 5spd can go over 120. That's a HELL of a difference. The earlier gears DEFINITELY attribute to greater acceleration, because they are shorter, and when you shift near redline, you are right in the MIDDLE of the sweet spot in the next gear. I'm never under 5700 rpm when I log my drag runs. If my 7.80@87-88 doesn't mean anything to you, then maybe you don't have much drag experience...I dunno. So yeah, it does a bit more than "save gas." You obviously haven't driven an MR to the limits and felt how easy it is to rip through the gears. I haven't missed a 1-2 shift in 35 drag passes, and I can powershift the 2-3/3-4 shifts with the greatest of ease.
