Hi, I'm new here :) - A few questions

Hey guys, I'm newbie here. I've loved Evo's since I was little and I think I'll be getting one for my birthday gift (yes I know I'm gonna be 16 and I'm lucky to have one.. I'm picking it over a 350z track and a new e90 330i). I heard many different stories about the release of Evo 9's and I've heard that they'll be comming out in September, I've heard October, December etc.. I haven't done much research on Evo 9's yet so I'm not sure.

Question 1- Are Evo 8 MR's really worth 5k over the regular evo 8's price?

Question 2- How much did you pay out the door for your evo?

Question 3- What setup (mods do you have) , and how much are you looking at to do, intake, headers, full catback and chip? I've read that Xede ( i think that's what it's called) is one of the best chips out for evo's.

Thanks guys, I hope all have a lot of fun here and meet cool people.
Sorry if some of my questions are reposts...

Not if your going to mod it. If you going to keep it stock, go for the MR. 2003 EVO VIII purchased new in December of 2004 $25,900 plus tax and tags. You probably won't see that type of discount on the MR.

I too was just a wee lass when I got my Evo in 03. If I could do it again I would have gotten a nice cheap rear wheel drive car to learn on (Hatchi or a Datson 510?) then would have gotten a later year Evo. Not only so I could appreciate the Evo so much more but also so I could have saved money on modding . I understand the itch to get one now, but if you explain to your parents that you want to be responsible and wait, they'll be that much more trusting of you. At least wait until the IX comes to the US to make your choice, you'll be much happier... trust me. Now if you only goal is to ‘pimp’ the ladies in your Evo then get an older Porcshe (~13k$). In my experience, many of them have no idea what an Evo is.

1. No, IMHO

2. 03, bought in Aug 03, 32k OTD

3. Intake, TBE, Tubular Ex. Mani., Cams, Ferrea Valvetrain, Ported Head, Injectors/Pump, FMIC/Piping, BOV, AEM EMS. That's it for power, at least. New turbo and stroker kit over the winter probably.

Before you get an Evo, have your parents enroll you in a defensive / performance driving school, please. IMHO, a 16 year old has no business driving an Evo or any of the other cars you've mentioned, regardless of how much $$ you have. Good luck.

BTW: Get the MR and keep it stock ;-)

I appreicate everyone's .02, thats why I made this thread to gather everyone's opinion. I think I can handle an evo 8, I raced gocarts for 6 years till I was about 14, I'm not saying that I'm a good driver because fact is I've never driven a car before (legally), which is a completely different machine. I know a car isn't a toy and I'm not going to push the evo till I learn the cars weak and strong points when I test them out in a safe environment. Trust me, I'm not like your typical everyday 16 year old idiot.

You should still wait for the IX to come out or you will be regretting it later .

i would go with the regular evo. i had the same problem because the MR is a tight car, but i just couldnt spend that much more. so i went with the regular evo 8 and i modded it to keep up with the MR i cant complain with the money i spent. i bought mine slightly used with 15,000 miles on it. for 27,000 from carmax

What part of Phoenix you from? I go there to visit my family about 3 times a year. I love it there, I really want to go to ASU for college. My house there is in Glendale/Peoria area (75th and Bell).
