Hey guys whats up? Wanted to start off my place on this forum by sayin Hey in here so nobody gets mad in another forum cause of my, possibly, "n00bish" self. Well, i am in the mood for looking for a new car for myself since i am moving into another apartment and am selling my old wheels to help accomodate my sister in which she is in need of a clean, good running car so im selling her mine. Right now i drive an 02' Civic EX (in which im selling towards my sister) and it may be the slowest car i have ever been in or drove. The other car i drive is a 96' GS-T Eclipse in which i have had some time getting use to and modding a little (Stage 3 (except for turbo). I have been reading on the 03' EVO 8 and comparing it to an STi/WRX. The STi i fell in love with for awhile just for its all around power/look/suitability but cannot find one used for the price range im looking at. I have been looking for WRX's too, pref. 04/05 but i think i would like a little more mod. capabilities and power I just had some questions that i hope someone could answer for me...

1.) Everyones heard of the 4G63 in 2G Eclipses/Talons and how they've had problems with them (including me..oh do i know); is this 4G63 in the EVO the same way? Whats different about it?

2.) How does the tranny hold up under pressure on the car? (Same kind of question as the one above..just want to stay away from the problems as best as i can)

3.) Anything i should know before buying one?


I have been looking around for this type of car and they all seem to be between 20-40k miles and between 24,000-29,000. I am in touch with a person who is selling his with 20k miles for $9,100 which includes shipping costs and everything from Hamilton, NY and i live in Upstate NY!? Does this seem right..i could paste the email he sent me but thats making this really long post a little too long.

Ive had all the 4g63's and they are fine as long as you take care of them. I had a Talon that was a TSI that had over 140k miles on it that I bought. no one had chaged the T belt and it ran fine. I eventually changed it. Trannys suck because people cant drive. If you drive right you will be fine. Buy a used evo from a reputable prson and you will be happy.

Thanks for the help guys..im lookin for a clean EVO but gotta drive to Pennslyvania to look at em. Im a neat freak so i will be taking great pride in this car (just like i did the Eclipse). It will be all performance, no flashy crap here.

 

Get the Evo, there are WAY more mods for the evo than the STI. I also love the STI looks, but the mods are few and far between. on the used car, make sure you check the Transfer case, and if warranty work has been done to the trannys, as there are recall bulletins on them. Also be wary of stock clutches, they usually are the 1st weak link. nobody went to a dealership and said "I want to buy an Evo to go to the store and Church" they have some rough initial miles I am sure! make sure the fluids have been changed and documented especially the Transfer case! should be changed BEFORE the recommended miles! I have 40K miles on my evo, and have changed everything almost! pm me if you have more questions, and buy one with an extended warrany if possible. good luck!

 

Im looking at one with around 11k on it for $24,899. Silver, stock, never modded. Need to drive a ways to look at it though. I have a few mods in mind once i get it but once i do it might be a little while until i can start really modding it. Put a stereo and maybe some upgraded speakers and amp/sub combo? Probably spend a week cleaning the engine compartment and interior though knowing me Im just still worried about the 4G63 as well as the Tranny..it will be a daily driver most likely, but i dont care about comfort that much.
