AFC Help

I'm purchasing a used AFC-1 off of a buddy who had it on a second gen Eclipse. Do I have to do anything special when I get it? Do I have to clear any codes or anything like that? This is the first tuning device I've ever had. I don't want to screw the car up.

I would highly recommend against it if you don't know what you're doing. If you insist on using it, go to the S-AFC forum to ask for help and also go to Evotuners.net to get additional help. There is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH to learn before you even think about installing that namely getting a logging device first.

I'm not installing it myself. I am getting help from experts. I just wanted to know if there was any advice people could give. I forgot there was an AFC forum.

You don't need help with the installation. That's the easiest part. The hard part is knowing how to use it properly and not endangering your engine. If you are already getting help from experts in person, then why do you need our advice? I'm confused...

he means you should not tune it at all w/o a wideband or dyno. you can make your car too lean and blow the motor. i forgot if the afc-1 has dials, but zero them out if they do. it is nothing to install. it is tuning that is dangerous and difficult. dont even install it untill you know how it works and untill you have something to measure AFRs at least. it will be too tempting to adjust it even a little, and you might adjust an RPM range that was lean already without knowing. if you are having it "professionally installed", they should know what you need to tune it and how to. a monkey could splice and sodder 5 wires.

I hear ya. I know a little bit about tuning but not enough to do all the work myself. I don't mind having somebody do it for me the first time but I would like to learn how to do it.

I wasn't being a dick. If that were the case, I would not have tried to help you at all. I was trying to look out for you, but you're just wasting our time, so I won't bother anymore.

he is usually very nice if you ask logical questions. but the point is, if the installers are experts, and by no means are they experts for soddering wires, they should know to zero it out and to tune it with something to read what is going on in your engine.
