Does s-afc work on NA cars?!
i was always planning on turboing my car, but i think id rather geta Starion/Conquest or maybe 240sx and have that be my project car.
but i ALWAYS ALWAYS read that the s-afc doenst work on the Lancer period. In a post somewhere BOE said that the s-afc works on N/A but not on a boosted Lancer above 1psi.
so if i just do intake/header/exhaust/throttlebody and get an s-afc would i be able to +/- fuel to tune it? or would i still only be able to subtract fuel?
sorry this is in F.I. but its where all the AFC questions are and uh...yeah

I asked that question long time ago and the anwser I got was that S-AFC would not work with Lancer (exc.EVO) because of the many different sensors connected to ECU.
Answer is : S-AFC shouldn't be used on our Lancers

Moving to engine tech since this has nothing to do with FI tech.
The magic answer is that the S-AFC can subract fuel, but cannot add past a certain point determined by the stock ECU. From everything I've read that's the short of it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

screw me cuz i need the most fuel possible right now!!! i just got my cam installed and its running like crap. i have the safc maxed out. calling visionimports tomm to find out what the deal is.

yeah i know rhyzin had a diff MAF, however it was a 3g eclipse i thought, i'd have to check the thread.
the 3g eclipse 4cyl MAF swaps into our car pretty well.
i thought about getting that and the fuel pump like he had, i can get it all cheap cuz i work at autozone
haha.
but if a s-afc doesn't work than its pointless and ill just get AEM EMS or GReddy eManage or something like that and have a local shop tune it or i try myself, haha.

I drove it for 8mos on the AEM EMS standalone before I blew a piston...or two. I had the initial tuning done for me (a couple remaps actually), but now I do most of the tuning myself. If it weren't for what seemed to be a fuel pressure problem (presumably since I was unable to monitor it at the time) it would certainly not have been so difficult to get it running properly.
I'm tired of giving the standalone warning. If you don't know what you're getting yourself into, don't do it. If you do, expect downtime. Good luck.

rhyzin, good to heat from u, haven't seen u on in a while. i was always interested in doin the MAF swap on my Lancer like u did.
u always said to throw it into 'open-loop' mode by cutting a wire...i guess like the a/f ratio wire from the exhaust manifold...it would than poor gobs of fuel into the enigne and u could lean it out with the s-afc...right? just put in a wideband sensor/display and use that to read and s-afc to tune.
am i right there?
thanks

actually steve (sdhotwn, i think?) said something about cutting a wire. there's another safc thread somewhere with the info about what steve said. it sounded worth a try and could probably work, but i didn't like the fact that you'd always have a fuel related CEL always active. i think this was just to make the safc work without any mod in particular. this way has also not been tried out by anyone.
i put out a thread about why i think my particular setup works. my particular mix of an upgraded MAF and fuel mods allow for both positive and negative adjustments.
other than these two particular ways, a safc won't really work properly. at least as far as i can tell.
