buying evo - need help!

Hey every body I just joined up on these forums because I plan on purchasing a new or used Evo MR. Basically I am looking to get an '05 MR new around the time the '06's will be released so I can get it as close to invoice as possible! Obviously with buying a brand new evo I don't really need to worry about much but if I am to sell my wrx now and not fully pay off the loan (so my down payment won't be as large) I might opt for a used model. Is there anything I should look for in a used or test driven model? I am rather hesitant to buy a used evo but since it's an MR I'm not as worried as if it were just an Evo. Since I plan on doing t.b. exhaust, intake, cam gears, cam shafts and engine management - I would just break in the new car and then mod it. However if I go used I figured it would be safer to drive it between maybe (lets say) 5-8,000 miles before I mod it just incase something happens where I need the warranty - I've read up on these forums where someone purchased a used Evo MR 734 miles and had to get a new short block because of main bearing failure I believe? - It was covered by warranty but still a modded evo is gonna be voided in a heart beat - but not to say that I couldn't remove all aftermarket parts and try to fool the dealership..
Also when can I expect the new '06's to come out so I know when the best time to purchase an '05 will be?
I'd appreciate any help and comments you all have!
Thanks much, jake.

check the brakes and pads and make sure theres plenty left and the rotors arent warped. also, check under the bumpers and look for overspray because a lot of dealers respray their bumpers. just make sure all wearable items arent worn down too much or else youll end up having to pay for it soon.

If you end up buying used. Just be sure to find a reputible mechanic that knows about the car that he is checking over (its even better if you know yourself and can check it over). Also if possible find out who the previous owner was and see if you can call and talk to them about the car. You can tell alot about a person (and how they treated thier car) just by talking to them, surprisingly enough. But unfortunately, even with a good mechanic looking it over and your own detective work, it still takes some luck.

I bought my car used about two years ago with 3200 miles on it and have not had a single problem with it. I guess you could say I got lucky, but I like to think the steps I took prior to buying it helped also. Hope this helps.

Thanks you guys for the help..
Well since it won't be until january till I'm paid off and ready for the car - not only that and seeing how there is only one evo mr in the state of colorado for sale i probably will just buy an evo 9 mr new since by january most evo mr's will be a little more used then what i'll want.
i'm sure there are posts but anyone have some pro's and con's for the evo 8 mr to the 9mr?
I'd appreciate it, jake.
