hey!!!!!!! i was in the same position as you are in. i am now 20 but going in to college i was getting a new car. i was looking at the G35 coupe and the Z. but at the same time the new evo's just hit the floor in 03. so, i decided to get the evo because it had 4 doors, allwheel drive (which is safe'er), and you don;t see then as much plus its faster. i still have my evo and i have a little baby girl on the way, almost 4 weeks away from the due date. so i am getting ready to be an evo dad. lol

anyways the car is great for college, you get plenty of room ok gas, depending on driving, and you get to race ppl on the side for fun.

good luck in getting
later

Just think carefully... rethink again to be sure.. you don't want to be in a financial problem that early in college.

im 20 and in college. do yourself a favor buy something cheaper. if you donthave the money now for a down payment or anything youre just going to get yourself in trouble. youre not going to want to work full time and go to school just to pay for a car. think about it. books are expensive, partying isnt free either, then youre going to add car and insurance payments along with gas which isnt getting any cheaper.... you just might want to reconsider. but if you dont its a hell of a car. good luck with your decision

here is another alternative, given that you are a responsible person: get a used motorcycle and beater, while invest the leftover money wisely. a motorcycle is more fun than a evo, cheaper to maintain, BUT it is more dangerous.

don't do it.

In my opinion buying an Evo would be a mistake at this stage in your life. It could be a great distraction because you have a very high probability of getting some tickets driving it for either speeding or the undue attention it gathers from both cops and people who envy you.

I understand your feverish desire for this car but remember it is very expensive to maintain and the cost of ownership is much higher in proportion to its purchase price.

focus on school and reward yourself when you are done. There will always be a better car waiting for you when you are ready! Mitsubishi will make sure of that!

Good luck and be wise.

college is overrated. I went, got my degree and wasted 4 years that i could have used making money(instead of spending it) and gaining experience at a job.

Unless you plan on being a doctor, or lawyer...or teacher, just find something you like to do and start growing in a company. You will make up for not having a college degree in a year or 2 of gaining experience in the company.

Many studies have shown that a person's lifetime earning power correlates very well with the amount of education he or she has. It's true that these days having a 4 year college degree is like having a high school diploma in the past but without any college education, it's hard to compete for a descent paying job.

Take the long view and you won't regret it. You go to college not only for a degree, you also grow up and learn to be independent.

My two cents.

I'm in the same position as you... I'm 17 about to be a senior. Now one thing that I have is a $12000 down payment. I will definately be buying the car used, I will never buy a new car in my life, terrible decision, nothing but depreciates in value. Let the first person take the hit on the car and not you. With $12000 down the monthly payment should be around $300 a month, which I will split with my mom, along with insurance which should be around 300 a month. I make about $150 a week working 20 hours so I will still have money for mods and gas, plus my mom can help me out if i get in a bind, not spoiled just have helpful parents haha

WELL, maybe my tune will change when i find a job that i NEED a degree for and when i pass over people who have been working the job for 4-5 more years than me who are degreeless.

Maybe it directly correlates to where you live(how large). Im sure having a college degree is more useable in bigger cities...but, i don't think the smaller town folks can get much out of them(other than the stated learning to be independent and such, i agree 100% with that).

I agree though, you do have many more options with a degree if you are willing to relocate, but if not, i don't think its as appreciated or needed in the work force as we are led to believe.

I have 2 friends who skipped college and are now making 100k a year while i was in college getting a degree, they were getting experience and clients. Now im here with a 25k a year job(that i need no degree for) while im looking for better.

Maybe thats why im bitter.

The only thing though is that I dicussed this with my mother and she said that it wouldnt be a wise decsion going into college (i.e. money and all). So what I am asking is more input from the Evo community before any real decision is made. thanks in advance.
Listen to your mother and save your money. Go buy a cheap car for now and when you get out of college get the car of your dreams. You will be happier in the long run.

Don't do it. Do not bring a nice car to college. Your **** WILL get fudged up. Drunks, people that don't give a crap, etc. will mess with your car guaranteed.

Have fun at assu, the women there are awesome.
