This may be a stupid question but what is the use of a blow off valve? And this maybe a stupider question but is there any use for one on a non turbo motor or if it can even be put on one?
Don't flame too hard this is why I put this question in the newbie forums

Didn't mean to come off like that, and I apologize.

A blow off valve releases excess pressure while you're shifting gears.

Without any kind of forced induction, you won't run into problems at all with air pressure, so there is no need for the bov.

It wont even go off and make that cool sound if there isnt enough pressure. So yeah, i guess u have to have a Turbo or some sort of forced induction (supercharging also) to use it otherwise it would just be adding weight to your lancer.

Superchargers dont use BOVs. Because they are powerd by a belt that runs directly off of the engine they dont make boost when the throttle is closed.

And yea, BOVs are only useable on engines with turbos. Their primary use, if you havent gotten it by now, is to expluge unused boost when the throttle is closed. Check www.howstuffworks.com for any questions you have that are engine related. Serioulsy, thats how I learned.

well they do sell the custom valve that you stick on a automatic transmission so it can make that cool wooosh sound. but its like 200 + . It releases some presure build up by the transmision oil while shifting. Thats the only way you can have that cool sound but honestly its not worth 200+ for it returned mine.
