How one earth are you guys comparing what an Evo goes for in one part of the country vs another? Especially considering the car might very well have options beyond the SSL that are not even mentioned. MSRP is a tad over $33k for the car with just the SSL....so he certainly did not do badly, especially if 9's are not in his area yet. Hell it's not even on Mitsusbishi's website yet

Andwow....a bit bombastic to suggest he should not don those mods. It's his car,if that's what he wants, that's what he wants. It would be a bit boring is everyone modded the same way. Modding is a form of self expression, and everyone has different priorities and different ideas in their head about what they want their car to end up as.

Other than what is listed, decide where you want the car to end up mod wise - it's a tough thing to do, but give it some thought now, as it will save you buying stuff twice later.

So you asked for advice and ignored it anyway?

We said NOT to get an intake and bov. That's the most expensive and worst 2 things you could have bought. Oh well. I guess you really don't care if the car is fast as long as it has HKS products that look neat in the engine bay? Damn shame...

The MBC, boost gauge, and oil pressure were very good. The A/F gauge was a huge waste. You could have gotten a good 50-70whp for the money you spent. Instead, you might end up with less power and driveability than stock.

i think warrtalon was the only one that said no intake, bov, and dissed evo05lution on his choice of mods. i just dont want to be a part of the 'you guys' when its only one person.....

btw - an intake is not one of the worst choices for a mod

Warrtalon, so even after reflashing an AEM short air ram wouldn't do anything for you?

No, after a reflash, the AEM should be fine.

It's getting an intake (untuned) and a VTA BOV for about $450 as the first mods that is bad, especially when the whole reason for doing it is "to sound a little nicer." I don't know about you, but I prefer all of the sound to come from my exhaust, not my engine bay. The latter is indicative of a standard Honda, whereas the former is indicative of a powerful car. As he said, he was less concerned with going faster with his mods than sounding better. That's a crying shame...

I am currently waiting for Al (DynoFlesh) to show up in the Peoria area so I can get the custom tune. I have the AEM intake, Megan Racing 3" dp,tp and catback plus defi boost guage and a Hallman pro rx bc and forge bov. I am also waiting for the Megan Racing exhaust manifold.

31.5k otd with SSL sounds like a pretty good deal if you ask me...im thinking you could have pushed for 29-30k though.

You're in good shape. If it looks like it will be a while before Al shows up there, then at least go ahead and get a mail-in. Or, drive to AMS and get a custom job done there...

We aren't just saying "no bov" outright. We just say that it's not a good mod to buy FIRST for your evo, especially if it's VTA (then it's never good, really). If you already have a Forge DV that fits the Evo, there's no reason not to go ahead and use it.
