100 oct vs 91oct

I am not stock but with a TBE FMIC and 100oct i ran a 13.23 @ 106. With 91 pump I ran 13.20 @ 103 was my best. I have all my times in my computer and the only differance i have seen was in the MPH.

We're only referring to stock. We know that 100oct is extremely useful otherwise.

I run .4s and 4mph faster on race gas with my own tuning, but that's not the point here.

What were the weather conditions between these two runs? How long did you idle the car in the staging lanes between these two runs? did you run the a/c to combat the Arizona heat while staging between these two runs? Any other reasons to believe heat soak may have set in slower run? Several factors will influence the trap speed. Just asking.

When I was in the Mitsu dealership buying some filters I talked to one of the mechanices who has been a Mitsu only guy for many years and he told me that our cars are designed to run on 98 octane.

He told me that the factory did a lot of ECU tweaking to make these cars runs on 91 but told me that if I had the chance, run some 98 in it and he told me there was probably a 5 to 6 HP gain.

He told me the difference was very noticeable driving the car.

I have heard from many mechanics that you want to run the octane just high enough so there is no pinging or detonation. If you run a really octane in a motor that doesn't need it, it doesn't do any good at all.

Just my $.02

It was cooler out when I ran the 91 like 65-70 degrees. The 100oct was about 85 give or take. The heat soak factor I take into count, but the 2 runs were after a cool down. i know its all about a stock evo with 100 oct in the tank but I thought I could help some what with my experience with the gas and basic mods.

as far as mixing gas (not by brand but by octane ratings), if i put about 5 gallons of 100 oct. and fill up the rest w/92 oct (in Hawaii, highest is either 92 or 100 oct) on a very near empty tank, will it bring the octane rating to about 93-96 oct? i dunno.....might just be a stupid question OR i just dont know what the f**k im talking about....but oh well....say what you want about it. just wondering....

btw, how big is the gas tank?

Yes, that's how it works. It's linearly calculated based off gallonsXoctane, etc. Our tank holds 14 gals. In fact, right now I have a half tank of 104 and half tank of 93, which puts me around 98.5, and I'm able to run 24psi on the street with more aggressive AFRs and timing, so I'm having a blast this week.

Ran some race gas at the track this past weekend mostly stock, so I'll throw up some #'s. Only mod is an Invidia TBE w/test pipe.

~ 1 gal of 93 octane
~ 5 gal of 104 unleaded

60': 2.0
1/4: 13.25
mph: 104.9

could NOT get a good launch all day, but for a 2.0 60', I'll take a 13.2

Use my sig for a comparison time when I was stock. Similar 60', et, and mph.
