boosting

simple newbie questions which i tried finding on the site: if and when i install an MBC (w/gauge of course for readings) will the boost hold steadily to redline? and to my understanding so far, 1.5 bar or ~21.75psi is the highest but safest boost on a stock motor? correct me if im wrong...

The boost will not hold steady till redline and it would be pointless to run 25lbs. That amount of boost is way out of the stock turbo's efficiency limits from what I've read on these forums. This is also why boost will still taper a few psi.

Boost will peck to 1.5 and then let go just a little. Nothing really noticable. What other mods do you have?

I recommend going with a flash instead of the S-AFC II unless you plan on doing all your own tuning and are ready to buy a wideband O2 ($300), a patch harness ($100), and a logging device ($100+) in addition to your S-AFC II so that you can effectively tune your car.

If you're willing to do this work and buy these parts, I will be happy to help you. I use an S-AFC, but also have a base flash to make up for what the S-AFC can't do.

Boost will always taper as you approach redline, because the turbo can't sustain it that long. 1.5bar/21.75psi is more than you want to run on pump gas, but is nowhere near the safe max on a stock motor. The motor can handle all the boost the stock turbo can give it (28-30psi), but it can only do so with the proper fuel. I run 24-25psi at the track on race gas, but 20-21psi on 93oct daily.
