Its not a hp mod but get a turbo timer. That was my first mod and its worth it in the end. My dealer suggested it and like to see turbo timers in the Evos. Unless it is poorly installed.

Question,
If a person were to get a re-flash by a credible tuner and they ever had a problem, could they(tuner who originally re-flashed it) then return it to the default setting (stock) w/ out any evidence of it ever having been altered?
Have you ever heard of anyone having damage done to their engine from doing a re-flash & tune (by a professional tuner as referanced above).
I was just wondering, as I have a friend who was considering doing same to his 05 Evo.

Im 80% sure they can but Im not a 100% sure. Unless the dealer is looking into it the wont be able to tell that you have been flashed. If anyone wants to correct me go for it.

a turbo timer is not really needed on a turbo that has a water coolant jacket on the turbo, uses synthetic oil and requires oil changes every 5,000 miles. A turbo timer is pretty much a waste of money.

they can reflash it back to stock, with no evidence it was ever done to begin with.

Are we certain on this? I was talking to a friend who said his BMW would read "reset", indicating a re-flash once it was changed. Maybe it's bogus info, I was just wondering.
How costly is it to get a spare ECU?

What kind of BMW? Im a BMW tech and the only way we can really tell its been flashed is if there is a sticker saying do not reprogram ecu. If we really look into it with are scanner we can find out what program number the ecu has. We can also tell how many thimes the ecu has been flashed. If the ecu has been flashed back to stock there is no way to tell its been performanced flashed besides looking at how many times it been flashed. it could be flashed 10 times but that doesnt mean it was performance flashed. So in my opinion flash away

I agree, can't you just sit an extra 3 min in your car?

It was a Z-4. So if they see it's been flashed, they can't void the warranty with out conclusive proof that the "alleged" flash caused the problem.
I went to the Ford dealer to have a chip installed on my F250 Superduty 7.3. They basicaly said that if the chip actually caused the problem they wouldn't warranty it. They also said that they didn't see how installing a bigger free flowing exhaust & intake could cause a problem (I installed a big DP & straight piped my exhaust). It just seems there's a lot of threads saying how bad Mitsubishi is in attempting to void warrantees.

I would recommend saving your money and paying your sales taxes. I think it will bite you in the a**. The Evo should perform well enough for you to enjoy for atleast a month.

keep it stock for a while. Get used to the car, at the same time do research on what you should start modding.

i know this is a little off the topic but i was thinking about getting my ecu re-flashed and i wanted to know what is preventing a company from just sending your ecu back (if you do it by mail i.e. dynoflash) without doing anything to it. if you dont put it on a dyno how can you really tell something was done to if other than it might "feel different"

drive stock for one full year to get to know your car at least. after that, good maintenance and frequent inspections done by yourself can go a looooooooong way. I'm not saying to baby it but be good to it and it will be good to you.

The best first mod...Tighten the nut behind the wheel.

Warrtalon is on the right path with his advice: really learn to drive the car and then you will discover what more you want it to do. When you find that out, you will better understand what you have to do to the car to get it to do that.

If you are going to hang out here, thicken your skin, too. Some members, while meaning well, don't always play nice with others. The better you listen, the more you will learn.

Also, develop a healthy case of skepticism...not all of what you read here is good info. Much of it is, but always try to verify the info for yourself. Don't just swallow it whole.

HTH!
