Which mod would you recommend

Just purchased my 05 Evo VIII last week and I am not sure what my first mod should be. I previously drove a lifted truck with a V8, so I don't have that much knowledge on these types of motors, but I've been told that I should get a BOV or an intake or exhaust first or extra gauges or boost controler or turbo timer or tires (the list can go on & on). I would like to get some extra hp, but it's not a requirement since I don't want to screw with the warranty. I appreciate any input. Coming from driving a lifted truck for the past 7 years, this vehicle is absolutely amazing. I couldn't be happier.

I would recommend driving it stock for a while. In original form it is a very capable car. If you really feel the need to mod, exhaust, MBC, and a tune are some low hanging fruit that can make some decent additional power.

If you look through the newbie section or the engine/turbo/drivetrain you can get lots of ideas. The search button is your friend when you start out.

Yes, please just drive your car stock for a long while first. There's no reason to mod just for the sake of modding. Since you're coming from a much different automobile platform, there is MUCH to learn with your Evo. It is very powerful, but its handling is even superior in greatness to its power-making abilities. Get it broken in nicely, then go do some driving events, whether it be an autocross or a high performance driving event (HPDE) at a road course. If you can, try a driving school, too. Then, once you've learned how to drive the car and understand it's limitations, you can then make decisions about what mods to get based on where you want to go. You don't want to just add mods because we tell you or because some local dude in your area says to do it. Do the mods that will make your car more enjoyable...and be careful with the warranty. There aren't many mods you can do that don't potentially void the warranty.

As GregK said, the best mods for your car would be:

Exhaust (3" full stainless steel preferably)
Tune (flash preferably)
MBC+gauge

In that order. Intake and BOV come further down the line and aren't altogether necessary unless you get to a certain power level.

I agree with the exhaust, mbc, gauge, perhaps a TT?

DublXL,

Congrats on your new Evo. I would agree with the above suggestions and suggest driving it stock for a bit. A Turbo-Back exhaust would be a nice first mod though. I got a killer deal on a TurboXS cat-back and downpipe from Rally sport direct. I really felt a difference after installing it and I think it was around $750 for both.

Good Luck
-Mike

Best mod, is no mod. Keep it stock like the previous comments. Those guys you can trust. But if you search, you can see which mods work best for the evo. Good luck!

A TBE is a great mod and doesn't require a retune, so it's also a great FIRST mod. Unfortunately, $750 is not a killer deal for a TBE, because they can be had for $550-600 from Megan or Logic Performance. Just FYI...

Warrtalon,

Please re-read my post. A killer deal on a TurboXS turbo-back exhaust. I understand there are different brands that sell for cheaper. Logic lists the TurboXS for $815.00.

Thanks

What do you mean "re-read" it? I was referring to turbo-back exhausts, too (TBE=Turbo-back Exhaust). Logic sells their own 3" TBE for $600, and you can get the Megan from Zeus for $550 shipped. They are both 3" TBEs. Did you mean something else that I'm missing? Is this TXS TBE that you got for $750 made of titanium or something?

TBE > cat-back. Cat-backs aren't terribly useful...full TBE is preferable...

I would say first off, like everyone else, drive it stock for a while. Then move on to some gauges. By then you'll probably have it all planned out. Good luck.
