Cool Got myself a new Evo IX

But not the MR. Been lurking over the forums for almost a year and I finally snagged myself a beautiful Silver Evo IX this past Sunday. I'm currently learning how to drive it as it is my first manual car I've owned, but I'm getting the hang of it for such the short time I've had it. The car is such a blast to drive even though I haven't taken it over 4k rpms, hell to be quite honest, I don't know if I want to mod it lol, its such a beast the way it is, but that might all change sooner or later if my dumbass decides to drive or ride in a modded Evo.

Glad to be a part of such a great forum and hope to learn a lot about Evo's. This is my first Mitsubishi, so the 4g63 is completely new to me as I come from camp Honda.

I'll probably post some pics later in the week when I have time.

I know u been around a while, but welcome to the evo experience. U have big ***** to learn how to drive a manual on an EVO. U just don't want to screw up the clutch early or worst............the tranny/synchro's. Good luck!!!

Congrats brother. Welcome to the family. Treat the car nice and it'll take care of you. Don't worry about modding it just yet. Just enjoy it stock and I guarantee you'll know when its time to go all out. (Start saving some money though )

Congratulations. Take care in shifting until you get a hang of it so you won't ruin the gear box. Check your oil level often and let the turbo cool down for a couple minutes after spirited driving.

Congrats. Welcome to the ranks. Like someone mentioned, take care of it and it'll take care of you.

******Grandfatherly advice WARNING******

Put aside a hundred bucks a month for a new set of Advans when it's time to replace tires.

Yeah about that, I'm still having some issues trying to shift smoothly into 2nd gear, but I can do just fine in the rest of the gears. Any tips to try to make it smoother?

And I will make a habit of checking the oil about every week. Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it greatly.

well the gearbox is still not broken in, mine has 2500 miles and it is still not easy to shift with, much better then the day I got it though. what I mean is you have to put some additional force to make the gear enter

If the car starts shaking or bogging down your just not used to shifting in a manual. and the 1-2 shift is the 'hardest' to match since you are not going that fast. You will be learning soon. Try to drive like you are a limo driver, or there is a cup of coffee on the dash, in other words try to be super smooth.

be good to your evo and it will be good to you!

Dude, I got to hand it to you, but that was the best advice I've received in a long time regarding smooth shifting into 2nd. Before, I would shift around 3k rpms and it would seldomly jerk, however, I changed my ways and started shifting around 2000-2500 rpms and its so much better! No more jerking! I do start slower than before, but I don't mind as it is super smooth shifting there.

Again, thanks a lot.

no prob, glad to help, the more and more you get used to manual the faster you will be with it. initially you may think that having a manual makes you slower but in time you will be able to reap the benefits of a stick over automatic, just takes practice!

FYI you can also shift smoothly (actually you should shift smoothly) at the higher rpms, 3k and up, even at redline, less stress on the drivetrain the better

Unless you race alot....I would keep it stock and enjoy the security of warranty.

Congrats on a beautiful ride....my EVO was the first car I purchased and didn't have buyers remorse a week later.
